Why did I drive away smiling?

So glad to have an old time mechanic around that will work on my 40+ year old truck, give me a good estimate, stick to it and have it done when he said he would. I say Goober in all respect. The owner actually did't do the work. His latest employee did. Seems like a nice guy but maybe a Goober. As I was driving out getting grease on my hands and killing the engine twice because the new clutch grabbed a lot lower than it used to I smiled and thought what a great old time deal. I'll just get out the mineral spirits when I get home and clean everything up.

  2. That's a good attitude, Gary. A lot of folks would have been upset by that.

Outstanding understanding on your part IMO, in the big picture, sometimes it's best to roll w/ the flow. On the other hand, I could write a book on poor warranty work on new vehicles and service work performed on my cars through the years, I'M Convinced, very few Mr Goodwrench, around here in Wi. Someone told me, it's the luck of the draw, and I'm a very Lucky man in general, but not so w/ hired car repairs through the years, now that I'm retired, try to fix my junk myself and so far, so good, some manuals, real mechanic friend's, the HAMB for reference and the Internet's YouTube, a video on every repair I believe.

he left the grease for you to be able to tell a tall one to your buddies on how you did the work yourself - mineral spirits has a nasty kick on the way down

Better to be on the wheel then on the seat. That would get you looks when you leave the car.

Jalopy if I had half the brains of Goober I would have taken a picture of my greasy hands and told everybody I did it myself. But then I was pretty far back in the line when god handed out the brains.
You probably know who did it. His name starts with Dale.

  11. Ha Ha greasy kids stuff. :)

  12. Better to have grease on the wheel or the seat, instead of the clutch or the flywheel.

  13. My do to guy when it's time to change oil will pull a clean rag out and wipe his hands well before taking the car off the rack, the wagons white steering wheel shows a little more than the black wheel in the deuce, his name aka is Bird. HRP

Sure it was Goober and not Gomer? Both looked like they had more grease on them than they got in a car.:D

I don't have a neighborhood mechanic anymore that I trust. My last go to guy passed away a while back, so I'm stuck doing it myself now.
