This topic has been discussed before but I can't remember if any definate idea ever came from discussion. I need a stick bellhousing for a 61-64 Poncho 389 but stockers are tough to come up with as they have provision for bolt-in starter. I'd really rather have the starter on the right side anyway. Anybody ever use a Lakewood ****tershield on one of these engines? Can the starter be bolted to the ****tershield? Can you bolt it to the right side? Anybody have one? How 'bout a stock 61-64 bellhousing......
Anybody know who makes that starter adapter plate to use with a later BOP bellhousing? What's the atomic weight of spaghetti?

wilcap sells an adapter for automatics, but none for manuals. Maybe you could adapt their adapter ring. www.wilcap.com. I've also heard that the mounting pad is there on the block, just need to drill and tap for the starter. I've found this all out after my dad and I ended up swapping in a newer 400 into his '63 bonneville because he hated the old auto ****** and wanted to put in a T.H. 350, but couldn't solve the starter problem.

You're right, Rocky, nothing definite did come of the previous discussion. Consesus was (sort of) that you could use the Lakewood ****tershield (with left and right starter pockets) but that you'd have to reinforce it in order to mount the starter. Also, from last year or so I recall some discussion about fabricating a piece to mount the starter in the block position on a heavy-duty bracket but I never did see if anything came of it.
