It’s a dry cell aircraft battery that I buy through Wicks Aircraft in Illinois. I use the 680 ($132). It’s 680 cranking amps with a small profile (6-9/16” x 3-1/16” x 7-3/16”) and weighs probably half the weight of a car battery. Because it’s a dry cell it does not need to be mounted in an upright position. Wicks also sells a battery box to mount the battery (you can see it in the photos) as well as a post mount kit (used on my ‘37). These batteries hold their charge much better than an auto battery. I have no affiliation with Wicks....... or any aviation battery manufacturer, but it’s a great option for your car. Not sure if this option is well known, so thought I’d put a post up. My ‘32 My ‘37...... in the same location the auto battery was, taking a 1/4 of the space.
I have had one in my 32 for a few years now. Have a spot for one just like it in my 34 truck. They are remarkable if you have just a hot rod and not a luxury liner.
I buy my 12 volt batterys from the local Farm Service Coop. I tellthen I want a power unit battery. and they go to a pallet and get a battery and brand it. That way there is no warranty. cost $40 with a exchange. High cranking amp heavy battery last me about 4 years. I play musical batterys and sometimes use them on tractors that don't charge ect.

Another interesting choice - https://earthxbatteries.com/ I have had Lithium batteries in my sport bikes for a few years now. Work great. No cold or hot start problems. Just don't "overcharge" them. Mike
Will all of the batteries mentioned work OK with a standard car charging system? Alternator or generator, or does the charging system need to be changed?
I have had an odyssey PC925 dry cell battery in my avatar for probably 6 years or so. I regularly take it out to run my tractor then put it back. I use it around the house for starting other cars I am working on. All use a regular alternator system. This battery don't care what charging system you have. They will run completely dead and charge right back up, no sweat. You can also keep a trickle charger on them. You can mount it in any direction, no liquid to run out.
Of course I fabbed a spot under the seat for a standard battery. I’m right at the point of actually buying the battery so this post is timely. I can surely use the space some other way! Cool. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Been using them for 18 years. Only just put the 3rd one in the roadster in that time. So that's basically 9 years life per battery. Pretty good I think.
So according to their web site, their 680 cranking amps is $379. Quite pricey compared to the Odessey battery. Is this due to being a lithium battery compared to Odessey being different?
