If you need a good laugh someone over on AACA forum just asked why '41 Willys are so expensive. The discussion will probably last for 20 pages.

If they were cheap, everyone would have one, then where would the fun be in that!

1941 Willys wasn't expensive, a person could buy one new for $630 :). Problem is, they only built 22,000 of them :(

Reminds me of the old book: "Fifty yards to the outhouse" by Willy Makeit and illustrated by Betty Dont.

I went over there (AACA) to see what they say. I guess most guys know the deal with Willys, but the original poster didn't. I see this from time to time, guys that have laser focus, or only have experience in 1 aspect of the hobby, and no knowledge of other goings on. It's not just an age or era thing. I don't claim to know everything automotive, but I do know a little about most aspects. My work manager, as an example, recently got out of local dirt track racing. Should have a clue about Hot Rods, one would think. When he first heard saw the Willys in my avatar, knowing it has a 289 Ford, Asked me seriously, if it could be driven at highway speeds. He was impressed that a 289 Ford could propel a car to 70 MPH.

Reminds me of a guy I worked with years ago.
Apparently someone told the guy that I was "into cars" so at any opportunity he would try to engage me with conversation about his latest automotive "discovery".
Seems his knowledge base was fueled by the arrival of the current issue of Popular Mechanics magazine.

I have a 58 year old Willy. The wife says it isn't worth nothing, well she uses the 4 letter word.

  19. I don’t find anything about the AACA or the NCRS for that matter entertaining.
