My son graduated Marine boot camp in San Diego. While we were out there. I was able to run up to Del Mar for the morning. Great show
Pretty sure this is the 32 Tub my dad owned for a while in the mid-90s. It was built in 1982ish by Boyd and Lil' John. It was a burnt orange color with champ 500 centerlines and a healthy SBC. Sometime in the last 20 years they painted it a more normal shade of orange and put the flathead in it.
Congratulations on your son’s graduation. Spent some time there myself in the Navy - a fighter squadron, a big amphib and two aircraft carriers.
Dang @Dan Hay, I looked at that car while at the show and instantly thought of the burnt orange car and said to my Daughter you don’t see many Deuce Phaeton’s anymore and told her I worked on one like that 20 years ago that was burnt orange. Small world My memory fades but one of my friends or friends of a friend had bought the car at a show and we spent the weekend cruising around the fairgrounds in it having an absolute blast with it. A week later it was in my shop getting some routine maintenance, then I never saw it again. I’ve got pictures of it somewhere.
Thanks for the memories of the car. I had just got my license when dad had it so it was the first hot rod I drove. If my memory is right, dad bought it from Bob Everts and sold it to Jamie Musselman I believe. I’ve always loved Phaetons because of that car.
That’s so cool Dan, I knew both of those guys but I wanna say that my connection to the car was Jerry Covington from Woodward Oklahoma (Covington Cycles) now. He was out here in California then and was somewhat involved with the car or the deal or something. It was a very nice and well built semi famous car back then
