Found this on my daily route and bought it on impulse. Not sure what to do with it or if it has any potiential. 51 Willys Pickup on a chevy s10 frame. Extended cab was done by previous owner. Bed is shortened. Did I make a mistake or does this deserve some needed love and attention?

Thought, comments, ideas are welcome about the truck and the newbie poster, go easy.

Bed looks funny, does it have sides? Can you give us a bigger picture with some sun on this side of the truck. Has to have some potential or you would not have bought it.

    Welcome aboard

Make it a 4x4. Cab lines are too square to ever look stylish as a 2wd, even though it is kinda neat in an odd way.

Definately has potential .I used to own a 62 Willys P/U.

  6. I love old jeeps. Move the rear wheels to the center of the bed, slam it on the ground and have fun. At least you'll have the only extended cab willys p'up where ever you go.

I've been offered a series 1 Landrover, (1948-52) closed cab pickup, which was the British answer to running out of WW2 Jeeps after the war. It's even 'boxier' than yours!

I haven't done anything about it, but I reckon it would make a cool cruiser. Slammed, alloy body with real patina, open hood with a V8.

    Good luck, Glen.

The bed is mounted backwards, when turned around the fender matches the wheel.

Hay man you're right up the road from me! Where did you find that thing?!

You could leave it like it is, finish it and use it as a cool parts hauler, chop it, slam it and make an interesting cruiser or lift it, or ad a T-case, D44 up front, 35" swampers and wheel it! the options are endless. Either way if you like it who the hell cares what anyone else thinks.

I'm always for the strange and unusual:D

I'm not much into the 4X4 thing even though most jeeps are 4X4. I was thinking lowered, but I'm having a hard time invisioning a jeep as a rod and second guessing the whole peoject. I agree the rear wheels need to be moved rearward a bit. I have a Caddy 500 motor waiting to go into something and this looked like a possible home for now.

The whole vehicle looks like it's backwards, not just the bed  The PO did a decent job with the extended cab and new window openings. The bed was cut short, probably because of rust, but not sure. I think he could have left it a bit longer, or at least that's what she said :D

If you made it into a lowrider I think the top would need to be chopped.

You need to PM fiddyfour here on the HAMB and ask him about his Willis pickup. His has a big block Buick, and lots of other cool stuff. You can also see pictures of it in many HAMB Drags pictures. You can do a search for "HAMB Drags" or "fiddyfour posts" should net you some pictures. Gene

That'd make a great wheeler. 4x4 guys would pay prime for that shell. Ditch the bed, put it on a 2x4 frame, 3/4 to 1 ton running gear, 35's etc.

  21. Looks like the driver's door still has the recessed panels, which the other side is sorely missing. Without them it is barely recognizable.

  22. i'd build it. could be cool

  23. one thing i have never seen is a shrtened box put on sidways ..
with two tailgates then you would be the only one for sure..

you make up the military uses... mess delivery .. short arm inspection unit...
wait for it "Attention !"Deficit! Disorder!

Yeah it needs the factory recesses in the door and it would be cool to have some in the exstended cab part also.
