I am always searching for bands to add to my list. One of the groups I have found lately is: Rusty and the Dragstrip Trio out of Australia. Good clean traditional sound. Also like The Chrome Daddies and Jack Baymoore and the Bandits out of Sweden. I am not big in the psychobilly stuff. I don’t really think lyrics about graves and everything related to death are my cup of tea. I have all of the big ones covered, Stray Cats, Setzer etc.
I'd go back a bit. Charlie Feathers, early Carl Perkins, Sun records-era Elvis. Modern guys, I'm big fan of Boz Boorer. His main gig is guitar for Morrissey, but he's a huge rock-a-billy fan and has recorded some great solo rock-a-billy stuff. Whitey Morgan straddles country and some rock-a-billy influences. Same with Junior Brown. I'll look through my collection and add some more later.
S.C.O.T.S. - Southern Culture on the Skids with such cl***ics as Voodoo Cadillac and Dirt Track Date.
I listen to all of the originals Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly, etc. i tend to really like the guys that make you wonder if it is an old group or a modern one.
I enjoy the old stuff, in it's first from*,even like almost as well ,when now days some local RockAbilley band dose them well*. Kind of fun to watch,it's a bit like a big custom party in some case's,too see who can be the most in-too bubble of over the top Bull**** ,about how it was{but was not that crazy!},with mega tatoo's n Bowler Hats ect.< There having a lot of fun with it! A few even think it's real, cuz all there buddys are into it so deep/ That adds too the fun,at least it's how I look at it,an enjoy!! If it gives you a smile,it's got to be OK !
***Disclaimer*** Some of their music may not be everyone's cup of tea - just fair warning for anyone looking for more of their stuff. Not Rockabilly, but a straight up three-piece band from Raleigh NC. Hot Rod Hell - YouTube
Hot Rod Hucksters - The guys from the Chrome Czars that brought you the Hunnert Car Pileup. The Chop Tops Imelda May Danny Gatton Hotrod Walt and the Psycho-Devilles
This song is such a banger. With that big beat on the two, you can't but help get up and go, cat, go! Another killer tune!
I love music. Always have. I know tons of useless information. I dig all genres. My kids comment about inheriting a weird and eclectic taste in music. They were exposed to everything from bluegr*** to big band and heavy metal.
Love the the old stuff, but theres some kick *** bands now like Reverend Horton Heat,Imelda May and others. Its what I listen to in the shop
@Roothawg Me too, but I figured if you were into rockabilly, you would have already found him, so I left him off the list.
You must bend, like a blade of gr*** in the wind.............. and if that doesn't work, yell at people.
I see your wisdom, Master Kan. I yearn for the day I ****** the pebbles from your hand and begin my journey to spread this vision to the m***es. Gr***hopper
In the great book of serene acts volume II, my comments would be somewhere between a Gandhi lesson and a Little House on the Prairie episode. twenty8 nailed it….I was just waxing poetic.
Hey @wraymen , when someone tries to rain on the parade, just look upwards and think of this...............
It seems that with music as other things there are images and gimmicks that go along with them , in music it's usually to boost sales, and you all know how it works? Eventually you get the followers....then the followers of the followers on and on...and with followers there's the interpretation of the images or gimmicks that goes along with the performers and as time changes so does the remembrances of the past and true originality fades away.....so I guess what I'm trying to say is what's the deal with this modern Rockabilly music and mega tattoos ,big hair etc. What , when and why is that image tied with rockabilly music? If one was really a true follower of the roots of rockabilly music ..... they should know what happened on the up coming date of February 3rd in 1959.... Not saying you had to be there just know and have a bit of history or background of what your part of... Also as far as the way followers dress ...not a clue....if it included heavy horn-framed gl***es ...that I would under stand. To judge the bands Rock-a-bility? That's up to the listeners ,sometimes to listen is to see what your listening to, that's when the images and gimmicks come in. Myself I do like a good live show but when I really want to listen to and feel the music I prefer to be kicked back in a dark room with the volume ya....up there. The day the music died February 3 1959 R.I.P Charles Hardin Holley AKA ... Buddy Holly
