Hi, I am in the process of running an exhaust on my Falcon and currently am running a homemade deal to get it inspected... It currently has a split manifold with 2" pipes and 19" long turbo packs that exit before the rear wheel... It doesn't sound bad but is is kinda loud.... My new exhaust will be ran to the back and I was planning on using the turbo packs again... Would a pair of Cherry Bombs used as resonators smooth the exhaust note out a bit? Any other exhaust system suggestions that can prevent a small six from sounding silly?
Depends what sounds good to you. Personally, I HATE that tinny, buzzy rapping at high Rpm of small diameter pipes. So, the last dual exhaust I put on a 6 banger was my 68 Chevy pickup with a 292 chevy and Clifford 6 into 2 headers. I ran a pair of 2.5" pipes to cherry bombs and then all the way out the back and the last 20 inches went into 4" tubes. Those tubes got rid of the whiney rapping sound and turned it into a "roar' kinda noise... I completely loved it! Reminded me of the old Cyclone Purple Hornies exhaust note. Loud but not obnoxious...
I can tell you what not to do. My dad has a 270 in his 53 chevy pickup. It has fenton headers with two, 2 inch pipes into a 3 inch and then through a flowmaster. It sounds ok at low rpm, but anything above 3000 it really gets annoying..just a thought good luck
