I've only found one good book (aside from the actual Ford Shop Manual), and I'm not sure that it's going to be detailed enough for what you need. When I get home and have hands-on it, I'll post back with the Name and Author.

  3. A couple of quick suggestions.

    1) Make sure that you understand the Y block firing order, and how the cylinders are numbered.

    2) The timing chain alignment is like no other V8- the dots should NOT line up. This is described in the shop manual. The book Metal Ghost refers to has this procedure incorrect. Mummert describes the easiest way to do it right.

    3) Mummert has some things listed on his website under "Assembly Errors". http://www.ford-y-block.com/technical.htm There are a number of "small things" like bolt length that can trip you up.
