I tried it without, and all I got was negative crankcase ventilation.

Good Lord, this thread is still going? WTF??? Some of you, you talk too much. You talk like you know what you're talking about when you haven't got an effin clue. Some one once said "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing", that's the theme of this thread. Please, let it go.

  4. Thank you @Blues4U! When you talk about oil, I listen. Everything else is background noise.

No matter what has been said previously, there seems to be a common theme in the Rotella vs Newer Oil made specifically for older engines.

There is a resolute group of people who chime in with comments but never actually offer any information. These same people are absolutely sure that nothing the oil companies produce could ever work better than their beloved Rotella and they are absolutely positive that all the other oil products are absolute junk. I scanned thru all the previous posts and basically couldn't find where any of these people stated that they had actually tried any of the oils made specifically for these older engines.....yet they just know that the products aren't any good. Think about it ...............they all know something isn't any good without ever trying it.

On the other hand there were several souls out there with the guts to say they actually used these specialized oils and they all said it worked well and they were happy with the results.

So virtually everyone who said they tried these oils likes them and everyone who has not tried them doesn't like them. There was even an actual test report from an oil testing lab and it said that the oil was good stuff.

(Note: There was one comment where someone said they didn't like something, but I wasn't sure what product they were referring to..........oil or some other product )

I think the funny part is the OP after posting engine info is MIA.
He left a stinker in an elevator, walked out, and left everyone pointing 6 pages (so far) of opinionated fingers.

I never liked the Firesign Theatre too much but people thought they were funny. Glad some people remember them. Wonder what oil they used?
We're all Bozos on this bus was referring a computer bus but it caught on whenever odd things happened some joker would pipe up with we're all Bozos on this bus. I find it amusing to repeat it today and see if anyone recognizes it.
Now where did I put my gallon can of Booster Motor Oil?

I've lost many SBC cams over the years using Mobil Delvac, Mobil 1, Castrol, Royal Purple, Pennzoil, Quaker State and other "good" oils. Motors were nothing special, just daily drivers with stock or mild cams and springs...

Haven't lost one in several years. Sent a sample off to Black Stone labs and this is what I use now...
