GOODBYE OLD HAMB...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Junkyard Dog 32, Jan 24, 2005.

  1. I have a screen capture of one of scotch's old posts on the Buick Straight Eight. That seems so primitive, even compared to this board. The new one looks killer.

This board seems more "cutting edge" than alot of boards I frequent. I know they are somewhat similar but Ryan does a really good job of keeping up with the newer technology. And doesn't even charge to be a member. Or make you feel like **** if you don't.

Thanks Ryan... hope the name change doesn't piss you off too much. [IMG]

See ya on the other side... hopefully. [IMG]

    WTF?!!!

People are LEAVING because the FORMAT changed?

That's just weird and an interesting window into human frailty. "Change is bad!"

And "I must not think bad thoughts! I must not think bad thoughts!"

    Funny...

    And JimA is BACK! [IMG]

Yeah--why not just print a screen of an old post, cut out the middle, and tape the edging to your monitor, like I'm gonna do?? I guess some people can't handle high tech...

  4. Yeah... JimA is back and **** Reynolds became a conformist in his non-conformity.

It ain't nuthin' but ****in' chaos...
Once a guy gets a grip on that, everything is a whole lot clearer... or, at least, more tolerable.

    He'll be back.

I gots me some staying power, huh? Look at all the **** I have put up with over the years... Man, I don't know what I was thinking sometimes...

I actually still have some email threads from the Newsgroup that formed the HAMB. Ain't no way I'd post that stuff here though. I think **** is the only remaining member from that mess...

Seriously though - if there is one thing that I have become pretty good at, its making web applications easy to use. I mean, don't take offense by this but, building a website that does very sophisticated **** for a bunch of hot rodders isn't easy. EVERYTHING has to be very simple and clearly laid out or I get tons of "How do I" emails. As a result, every version of the HAMB has been hacked a great deal just to simplify procedures and functions.

The new HAMB is no different, but we will still have folks that have problems figuring things out cuz it does work a little differently. That said, we have worked on the interface extensively. Our main focus was making image uploads easier and I think we've done a good job of that. We've also made the administration a little easier (yeah me!) as well as more efficient (yeah new server!).

This board is gonna be wayyyy easier to use in the long run than the board we use now...

I think I have image posting worked out now. But if it makes it easier for others and the images can load faster then I think the new format will be great. It can be so frustrating unsuccessfully tryin got post images and even more so when they are huge and take forever to load!. Bring on the new format! Geoff aka Whodaky

Ryan, that is precisely the kind of thing that makes what you do so incredible to a lot of us. It's the unseen, behind-the-curtain work to keep this place up and running (not to mention usable to a bunch of monkeys like us) that seperates the HAMB from any other message board I've ever frequented.

Can't wait to see what the new HAMB is going to bring. It's just a shame to me that folks are leaving already, without even having seen the new format. Oh well, whatcha gonna do?
