The word from John Drummond himself

    Hi XXXX.
It was not an easy decision on those vintage drag racing events. Trust me – we would like nothing better than to see those events grow and flourish. We cannot continue to hold those events due to continuous weather issues, poor car counts and poor spectator attendance. We give all events three years to sink or swim. Indy had been dying slowly for a number of years and the Norwalk event was atrocious from a financial standpoint. We lost a substantial amount of revenue at both Indy and Norwalk and neither was growing.

That leaves Bowling Green and the facts are it lost money two out of the three years we did it.

We just had to stop the bleeding and cut our losses from a business standpoint. We knew it would not be popular, especially with the racers. If more racers and spectators had participated we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

    I hope you understand
    Cordially,
    -John Drummond

Isn't that why they have insurance?

    To cover losses?

I sent my thoughts to John Drummond as to why I felt the turnout isn't what they expect.

I told him when the Goodguy members/participants pay to get into the Joliet show and then have to pay again to see the drags it's too costly, especially if it's a family.

One night of drags isn't what I would call an attraction for most racers. It also starts to late. Most spectators are gone by 9 PM. I didn't get thru tech till almost 5PM. Not much time left for racing.

At INDY you see it all for the same price...all weekend long.

That allows for beer time in the motel parking lot or whatever at the end of the day.

Actually the drags in Chicago will still be on if the track does not change ownership before the event. It's affordable as a package deal with the NASCAR track, but would be too expensive if Goodguys has to pay two separate entities.

If they do they need to open it up earlier and have separate gates for the spectators. An hour long wait to get in is another deterent for a good turnout.

They need to make it more racer/spectator friendly.

Make it right and they will come.

Gary 'Goodguy' said he would 'give back' when eradicated NSRA.

Give him a chance, for Pete's sake. Be patient.......

New England Dragway, (in Epping New Hampshire), holds 4 Nostalgia drags a year. It's a combo of nostalgia drag racing with a show and shine attached. There's usually a large turnout at all 4 events. But we've had years that some got rained out. They usually try and reschedule rained out ones. So I guess it is a crap shoot. For a good time, see schedule below.

    Schedule:

May 27th: Northeast Nostalgia Classic- Downeast Street Rodders

July 29th: N.E. Hot Rod Hall of Fame Nationals- Orientals

August 26th: Drag'n in the 50's- Mass Street Rod Assoc.

September 16th: old fashioned Sundaaaaay- Camsnappers
