People often say somthing like, "That car reminds me of Bonny and Clyde."

:mad:Some how that really grinds my gears.

  2. This is exactly why I'm a social weirdo or so it's said. Damn if I want to explain it all. If I want to see a deer in the headlights look, I'll go for a drive.

I used to know a guy in the parts business who pronounced it El-de-brock.

The other one that drives me nuts is when guys say; Don "Gart-lets"

  4. One afternoon I was in my garage, working on my chopped '34 Ford pick up. It has a Nailhead with the factory cast aluminum valve covers and the big ,block letters spelling "B U I C K " on the side. My neighbor walks in and says, " Ahhhhhh......nice Buick truck".
That night I ground the letters off.........I like it much better now.

Was at a show one Sunday when a young couple with two small boys came to look at my Merc. The boys wanted to see inside so I let them sit in it. Then the mom got in and looked around and said, "This is almost as nice as sex!". Her husband just rolled his eyes.

The old intakes came with pronunciation instructions. ;) It must have really grinded Phil Weiand's gears to hear someone say his name wrong. :D

Built a chopped and channeled , fenderless black 36 Buick coupe back in early 90s , grandpa from the show the Muensters had a restaurant in ny city, the village. parked in front of the place one night and a fella walks by and tells his girl , that car belongs to grandpa...aka al Lewis..I busted out laughing......although the Buick looked creepy late at night.....

It seems all car made before the war are "Bonnie & Clyde" cars!

  12. This reminds me of a friend of mine when I worked at an auto parts store. He was talking about a "Wheeland" and I didn't know what he was talking about. When I realized what he meant I corrected him and told him to look at a manifold that had the pronunciation cast into it.
I never hear anyone around here pronounce Edelbrock correctly.

When we finish putting on the End el brock manifold, boreded heads and 3/4 cam we will fill the holes in the fenders with Bongo.

    I have heard all those.

Stopped for gas in my former hotrod, a 33 Ford fenderless pickup with a Pontiac engine. A very excited young man ran over to see it. He said that's a Chevy engine, huh!? I said no. He said, I know Chevys and that's a Chevy engine. I asked, "Is it a big block or small block?" He replied, "It's a medium block!" I smiled and told him I was really glad he liked it.

That one actually gives me a chuckle, I think it was round '68 that I first actually began to notice the olds 442 it took me the longest time to come to grips with the engine being smaller than 442". I don't know how or when I found out that 442 meant 4 speed, 4 barrel 2 doors but when I found out I knew that I was among the smartest people on the planet.:D

Two friends of mine recently had a feud over this. Apparently early 442s were 4 bbl 4 speed 2 exhaust but later when they had automatics it became 400ci 4 bbl 2 ex. Something like that. An Olds guy will chime in I'm sure..

  20. Yeah, then the G bodies screwed even that up!!

  21. I see the 4 speed knob in your car, is it a Muncie Stonecrusher?

I'm doing my first build right now and have had 3 different people tell me I should put a ford 9" in my car. I take it as a compliment because there's no way I need that sturdy a rear end. I only have a 318 and an auto!!!

I was enjoying this until someone wrote that Candid Camera was fake. That's the worst thing I've heard since someone told me there is no Santa Claus. Please don't say anything about the Easter Bunny!

Here's my little bit to add here. Almost 21 years ago when we moved here to Boonie Land, Fl I was filling the 55 Chevy wagon with gas. Two local young guys asked where I found a mini van with chrome bumpers. Still had Illinois plates so I pointed and told them in Illinois.

  26. Guy at a car show looks under a Chevy..."yep, that's a 12 volt diff...."
No wonder the owner couldn't light up the rear wheels, he had a 6 volt system!

  28. Yes I get tired of it too. My last name is spelled Garlitz, Don's is Garlits. Pronounced the same. I used to get asked all the time if I was related, not so much anymore. I guess most people now don't know who he is.

That is totally awesome! I think you win.
When I was a kid around 1975 a guy stopped and said "does your dad want to sell his '34 Ford?" I look at the '36 Buick coupe in our garage and say "I don't know, but it's a '36 Buick."
He gets all excited because we're too dumb to know what we have. I swear this man spent the next hour arguing with my dad that his '36 Buick opera coupe was a '34 Ford! Pop points to the straight 8 and it doesn't phase the dude. Dad showed him the grille with the Buick emblem, guy says "wrong grille." Finally pop shows him the title, guy insists the title is wrong! Eventually dad says "then I guess you better buy it and prove how stupid I am!" For some reason that got through. Never heard from him again after he went home to get the money and a trailer.

Was at a show in the Wife's 64 Special, guy walks by and looks it over and says "Special? Whats so special about it?"

    I replied "Its a 442."
    "Didn't know Buick made a 442."
"Yep, 4bbl, 4 speed and dual exhaust."
"Well I'll be damned, learn something new everyday."

Funny thing is the 4 speed is a 2004r shifted by the stock 2 speed column shifter.
