Before I make the big plunge just need to check that Im not about to uneccessarily go with an auto. Next build is a chopped and 4" channeled A coupe and I'm ***uming that there WONT be enough room for 3 pedals?????? Big issue for me is that the clutch pedal will be against the tunnel ...... Is anyone running a stick in a channled A, particularly a T56????? Thanks guys sorry if Im all over the place with this build. Just want to get it right now, prior to purchasing expensive ornaments for the shed.
I think the answer is: How bad do you want it to have three pedals? I had a roadster that was channeled 4" with a 3spd and pedals fit fine. Is this a 28-29 or 30-31?
look at a Lotus 7 for ideas and minimum functional dimensions: From; http://www.apexautoeng.com/Projects_stinger.htm Yea, I know this one isn't right hand drive but the original ones were.
i have 4 " channel, and a pretty big tunnel to go around a lake wood ****tersheild, ive done 3 pedals in a lot of differernt cars a lot of different ways, using linkages and bellcranks etc, for a lot of applications the simplest way if your not worried about being period correct is use tilton or simmilar pedals for a circle track car, mount them on top of a good supported floor, or under the cowl, i really like them on top of the floor super easy to work on/get to. get a master and hyd clutch setup and your on your way
My model A is not channeled, but because of the unibody construction my feet are between the rails and the tunnel. ( it has a T5 5speed ) Its tight... But I can drive it wearing my size 11 workboots ( and I have more foot space than I have in my Mk6 Mallock U2 )
Thanks Metalshapes. Great pics. Was thinking of sinking my floor like that too after running the rails adjacent to the body lines.
I used a floor mounted Wilwood clutch master, an inside frame rail mounted brake master, and an interior mounting for my gas pedal. I tried it out with my clunky workshoes on when setting it up, and I will be able to drive it. I am using an extended bellhousing/block Chrysler hemi with a T5 behind it, so the tunnel starts out pretty large, but it works. The second pic is from above (the cowl top/tank is not on right now). The car is channelled 4" by the way.
It can be done, but a t56 6 speed is a lot larger in body than a typical t5. On a channelled car, it would not leave you with very much room.
the other problem a t56 is longer than t5. and the I took my package tray out and pushed the bench back as far as it can go. here is a pic of mine back when I was building the floor boards.
