Not sure where to placard the HAMB sign. For now on the air cleaner....but will probably end up riveted to the fire wall!
Not to be a*****,Just a concerned rodder ,Those aircleaners catch fire ,All it takes is one backfire,I had it happen to me...................
Yea one bad misfire with those air cleaners is all it takes to either catch it on fire or melt it into your carb is what Ive heard
^^^^^^Hahahahahahahaha!^^^^^^^^ Wow...this is news to me too. Years ago, I actually ran one of those for quite a while, then I changed to a big "velocity-stack" with no element. About then, my cam went bad, and the thing started sneezing and shooting fire out the carb on acceleration...2ft high! Good thing I took that air-cleaner off. Any others we should avoid? Is it simply any of 'em with the foam element, or are there different types of foam? Sorry we hijacked the***** outa your thread, Leadsled612.
Agree with the posters telling you about its flamable history had one on a 440 , the foam "filter" element gets raw fuel in it, and one back fire and its off and burning under the hood, heck sometimes it doesnt even need the fuel, the element will burn on its own, you notice it about the time the paint is peeling on your hood
Wow did not know about those type of air cleaners. Bummer...they look coool however a hazzard. Thanks for the information. Any other constructive criticism for a descent air cleaner?
Had one of those Weiand aircleaners on my '55 Chev Wgn. The 650 Dbl pumper backfired time to time, and toasted the foam element to the point it was dropping fried foam bits into the carb.
Had one catch fire on my 60 wagon back in the 70's. Sitting at a light when it caught. Smothered the fire out with my leather jacket. Back of the jacket was forever branded with the mesh pattern.
To answer your question ,Leadsled ,That is the only one ,I know of.Notsure abour velocity stacks........... Definately that one,They do look cool though ,,,,Shame about the fire issues,
