54-58 2 bl intakes would be truck & ind engines.

    Thanks for the ****** shot.................

  6. Is my 2bbl intake of any value? I figured it was a boat anchor.

You'd be lucky to get over 25$ for it.

  8. Maybe I'll try to take this engine apart this weekend after four years. This and a 283 I got a few weeks ago that's also stuck like Chuck. Will take a lot of beer...

Make sure that you get the bottom half of the bell.

Yikes! A Hemi and side flesh. what a teaser...

  13. I was just re-reading this and I'm still on the fence what year this engine is. I was thinking '53 since it is a short bellhousing, but last night my buddy said no way, gotta be a '56 or later.

Short bells came into play in 54-- it was a split year.. some extended version and some short bells. The numbers provided in the beginning of this thread indicate a 56 Ind. base.

  15. Mike who owns this has a four barrel intake. He may part with it. He is in love with this one.
His is hitting 6200 in the 1/4 with 3.55 tail and 28 in tall tires. Was a very inexpensive engine to build and works perfectly.

probably would run the best with a 4 bbl, but how cool would 6 strombergs be?

In '54 the NYer was supposed to get the 2 bl engine, the NYer Deluxe and Imperial was to get the 4 bl engine. '54 2 bls seem to be scarce.

  18. I hate this new format. Been here 8 years and now I can't figure out how to send a P.M. I am interested in the 4 bbl intake.

How different are the Desoto 330 hemi's from the Chrysler 331? I have a 56 model in storage.

Depends on what you mean by different. DeSotos are simular to the Dodge & Chr, but are inbetween the two in block size, with little interchanging. A Desoto would be easier to fit in a car than the Chr. Vintage parts such as 4 bl & multi carb intakes are rare vs Chr.

Put your cursor over the person you want to send a PM to avatar and click when the new part comes up select "Start a conversation" and the screen for sending a message comes up.

If you get a reply the white envelope on the right side of the top header will turn RED.

As noted, both are excellent engines but very little interchanges. With similar displacement the DeSoto is about 50lbs lighter and physically about 10% smaller.
About ½ of the 330 had a 4-bbl and all of the 341 had them so manifolds are available. My biggest issue with the 330 (only) is that we have had many with damaged cam lobes.
You don't say what engine your 56 is (both were available in 56). The 56 331 Spitfire is a great package and, again, about ½ had a 4bbl. The 55-58 Hemi intake does interchange. IMHO the Spitfire is undervalued by the hot-rod crowd.

Mine is a 56 330 2 bbl. I'm missing the starter, flywheel and the harmonic balancer is bad.

I worked for a bridge construction company that had several water pumps with the Chrysler Industrial hemi engines. We worked below the surface of the water inside of a "sheeting" steel wall that was driven into the river bed with a pile driver . It leaked like hell and lives depended on those pumps and engines. That was over 50 years ago so about the only thing I remember is in the morning and at noon they would kill one engine which caused the backup engine to automatically start up.

  30. Mine powered a rice field pump. Had a natural gas carburetor.
