Now you have to find a one-piece '50 Olds windshield for it. How did the grille last all of this time without getting messed up?

I just looked for and found your initial post here. It looks like you're in for a ton of fun!. I hope I'm not being too personal, but is your dad still around to see this?

I sure think so. I wish he was, he passed at the end of August and this all got started because at his memorial service most of the stories were based around his ‘49 Chevy.

Pretty clean 2dr …. what's the trans & rear axle going to be ?
Something about '51 grilles that defies logic … we used to find them on cars that had been rolled down mountains, shot at, burned out, shoved around by bulldozers … the grilles always seemed to survive somehow.
Put your location in your info - maybe somebody'll offer to help you out with some one piece bumpers …

"J_J2" - Sorry about your dad; I'm sure he would approve of what you're doing. Like yours, my dad was an "Oldsmobile Man". He had a '37, '49, '51, '53 (2 dr Super 88), 58 (J2), and a '62. In the words of Jean Shepard (the author and narrator of "A Christmas Story") : "Some men are Baptists, some men are Catholics; my old man was an Oldsmobile Man."

I have a full race '51 Rocket in my shop just waitin' for something to put it in.

Good luck with your project and keep us informed!

Those grilles must be eternal lol. I’m not sure on the rear end yet, I’m putting a Lasalle trans in it though.

Putting in a 1955 Rocket, in the process of tearing down but elbow surgery has put that on hold for now, I just stare at it in the garage, [emoji17] The floors have a couple of small holes that should be pretty easy to patch, I’ll have more pictures tomorrow

51 Styleline, 2 door Sedan; mine was a 51 Business Coupe, and I still regret selling it. Nice car you've got, just keep it, and keep posting the build please. I am Butch/56sedandelivery

Thank you I’ll try to post as often as I can. By the way that’s one of my favorite movies. I’d have to say I’m an Oldsmobile man as well! I’d like to see your engine if you have any pics (of course you do)[emoji6]

  20. Well preserved! Keeping the front suspension? I had a 50 delivery and a 52 el cheapo 2 door. Kept the original suspension for both. 52chevy_1981.jpg deliveryN48chev.jpg

There is nothing "wrong" with the stock front suspension, as long as it's in good, solid shape. The SAME front suspension was used in the 1953 to 1962 CORVETTE's; the only difference was the center steering link pivot point. The front suspension "cradle" can be blocked up to raise the front end very easily. All kinds of aftermarket, improvement pieces are made for them also. And, I say keep the "big" steering wheel; plain and simple, plus, it provides leverage (power steering). Darn it, I want my 51 Chevrolet Business Coupe back, but I know what it sold for by the guy who bought it from me, and it's way out of my range now. Check in over on ChevyTalk.Org; there's a sticky on rebuilding the front ends, and a ton of other "advice" in the 49-54 Chevrolet forum. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

I plan on keeping most of everything as original as I can except engine and trans of course, at least period correct. Nice cars you’ve got there!

yes, good front suspension. I wish i had known before I scrapped one rather than trying to find someone in need. Oh well, you live and learn. Fortunately they are pretty common. Nice project. I'd clean up the paint job and see how much is there, might be more there than originally meets the eye.

If you are looking for a 324, I have a new short block. Otherwise, I am very interested in how this goes, because I got to do something with it, and never thought of this.

Well she’s in the driveway, and I started picking through the interior and the trunk and it appears most everything is there, bumper guards, emblems, most of the trim, all of the dash trim, interior door armrests, an extra bumper and mounts etc, I won’t have to do much hunting for parts thankfully.
Found the gauges in the glove box but Ill have to send them out for restoration. IMG_0694.JPG IMG_0697.JPG
