Engine is now at the machine shop. I’ll be starting back to work on Monday, but will be working 4 10’s so I’ll have 3 full days to work on the car.

Well the heads are junk, both are cracked at the exhaust valves at the center exhaust ports, at least I can start looking for some #10’s.

I’m already looking, I don’t think it’ll be too much of a problem.

Finding a set of heads is turning out to be a bit more difficult than I had originally thought, but the search continues.

Started repairing holes cut into trunk floor (right at the shock mounts [emoji35]) until my back told me I was finished

^^^It probably broke the floor mounted shock mounting, and/or someone started to repair it^^^. Fabricate a shock cross-member when you're done with the floor repair. I had a 51 Bus Coupe, bought it right here off the HAMB. the rear interior-trunk divider was all cut up; it looked like a hatchet was used to do the job. And why, I could't figure; finally decided some old farmer had done it so he could put his rowboat into the trunk and push it forward into the interior; only thing that made any sense. I did a better job of straightening out the hatchet job, and covered it with aluminum. Should have kept my Coupe!!! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  12. Make sure you buy the phenolic spacers for the carbs. They work.

Picked up a pair of 371 heads from a gentleman in Boise, and dropped them off at the machine shop. [IMG][IMG]
He just happened to have this in his garage.

Now I’m going to focus on removing the closed driveline. I’ve seen a couple of kits to replace the rear leaf springs Walton Fab, TCI, anyone have any experience with these?

Crap. Hate to hear this. I was thinking about replacing the "no number" heads on my '51, but this makes me reconsider. They were completely rebuilt and have all new ancillary parts; how restrictive can they be?

Looked into Ross's aluminum heads? I know, I know, but I don't want to hear anything more more about it.

I think Im having a run of bad luck, I still have a couple of options though. Positive thinking, positive results. (But I’m still keeping my fingers crossed.

Every time I see one of those bare J-2 manifolds I think of the one I bought for $20.00 at Carlisle a few years ago and had to carry from one end of the grounds to the other. Still makes my arms and fingers sore when I think of it.

Well, new head is cracked as well, same spot, but is repairable, so we forge on, sacrifices to the Oldsmobile gods have been made.

Actually 5, with the 2 originals. But I hope the 3rd time will be the charm.
