With several parts cars purchased for his 61 Pontiac rag-top and 61 bubbletop, my buddy [Dar] ended up with a few un-needed 61-64 389's. I bought a 61, 389, 2 barrel engine with 48 thousand miles on it from him for a more-than-fair price. I won't begin installation in my 41 coupe until next winter, as I wanna drive the car this summer. I'll do a 12 volt conversion and a lowering job and wiring this winter in preparation for the V/8 next winter. I got a B/W super T-10 lined up for it too and I'm working on a bellhousing/flywheel for the 389 also... Poncho Billy's ex-57 poncho rear axle is now fitted with a 3.23 Posi gearset for the coupe too.. I love old poncho 389 engines. With a little tweaking, they make pretty good, reliable power in a light car..I'm completely jazzed!
[ QUOTE ] I'm completely jazzed! [/ QUOTE ] I don't blame ya' ...sounds like the new sled is coming together......sure you cant' get it together before the HAMB drags????...wouldn't mind runnin' ya...once or twice
I'll be cruisin with the flathead 6 this summer. It runs good and carries good oil pressure. I'm hoping it'll get me through the summer' leaving me plenty of time to assemble a kick-ass V/8 for next year. I'm in no hurry, Neal. I wanna keep this one, it's so clean and rust free...and paid-for now! Sold the 53 Stude yesterday and got cold, hard cash for it.....Poncho is paid for.
Paid For...... Oh, that's a happy feeling.......you didn't say...but, have you got naked in it yet???
Actually, I tried to get neckedd in it but the temps have been sooooooo cold, my nipples stiffen up and rub on my suspenders, chafing them beyond belief!
John Dolan................I know John Nolan [rodder] but don't know a Dolan..........I don't think, anyway....
I'm glad to know that '57 rear is going to good use. I love the fact that it's going to be Pontiac powered to boot! The 389 sounds like a great deal. All you need now is to have Grimlock accent the old paint. I think you're doing good, Rocky. Bil
Edging ever closer to the pinnacle 10,000th post!! I feel ya on the good six. My 68 Chevy "mystery machine" has a really sweet 250 that I just can't justify kicking out of the thing yet. But if that BB on my floor ever finds its way into that van...Katie, bar the door!! Glad to hear that your sled will be cruising around some of my old haunts. By the way, I heard people have been using sleds to get to work out there in the midwest lately?!?
That's very cool Rocky. I think thats the right direction to go with it. You should be jazzed, it's going to make it an all around fun car and a true hot rod.
Gee rocky...that didn't take long...you must be connected pretty heavily.. good luck with the 389 and the t10...when in the future you get around to putting it in..i want to see pics. tok
Rocky, one question (well maybe two) have you ever kept a car till next winter? seem to go thru projects as fast as you go thru posts LOL it amazes me how much you do get done and still have time for 9950 posts
Like the motor choice,Rock......I'll jus be sharpening my SAW-blades[an the hunch back ,cackles a raspy laugh]........
good choice rocky. i've got an acquaintence in the kc area who has a '39 poncho with a 389 4-sp. very cool combination.
Running a 389 in my 31 roadster..., Low mileage 2 barrel with an auto! You're making the right choice by going stick..., from what I've heard the early automatics were "quirky lil basturds"! I'm trying to find a stick set-up to use..., no sense building up the engine till I get the manual trany stuff! It'll be Fun to have the 389 w/tri-carbs in the rod!!!!
