It appears the truck was a little worse than the owner described regarding the drivers side door and cab conrner. Sometimes this happens with buying a car only from pics but I am still happy with the deal. Apparently is was put in a ditch in the 50's when the owner had a few too many and he said the door got bent up. Okay, it came with an extra drivers door so no problem. I got a good chance to inspect it today and the accident did a little more than was reported. The mirror got ripped off the front post and ripped one of the d-nuts out which caused a prety good size dent. The top of the door is missing and the door itself is very out of square. Gl*** was smashed and long gone. The door post wood is broke about 5 inches down from the roof and the wood rail from the front to the back over the door is broke in half just before the rear edge of the door. Rest of wood is perfect. The cab corner is really dented up and tweaked. The rest of the truck is really, really nice. I really don't want to use an aftermarket cab corner, I am going to replace the wood and the door with the other green one and patch in the paint. I like the old weathered girl. Where would I find an original cab corner?? Maybe Bert's but do any of you know where else to look? The rest is just wood and tiny stuff. I really want to address this first as I already have a running banger lined up and the body is perfect except for this. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________
They are still out there! Give Tom or Mike a call at the Antique Auto Ranch up here in Spokane (509) 535-7789. They may be able to hook you up with a cab corner. Nice A-bone pickup!
Dude ditch the hood sides, swap out the wheels for some KH's , and add some banger goodies and she's done!
Been busy on the truck despite the cold weather. I want to run the banger but the original engine is to costly right now to rebuild so I found a nice running banger locally that came out of California. The same guy who sold me my coupe way back when owned this motor and it was sold to a guy here in Michigan. I called up Neil in Cali and he told me it was a very nice running motor so I bought it on the spot. I then cleaned her up and rebuilt everything and painted her up in correct colors. No speed goodies yet. I then focused my attention on the cab and door on the driver side. It was whacked good in the early 50's and needed some attention. I stripped the old metal roof off and the wood is about 50/50 on the top so I ordered a whole new rood and door pillars. Driver is broke about 4 inches down from top. Found an original cab corner and test fit it today with the donor door and it is getting way better. I am going to wait on wheels and tires until after I have it running and body and the body work done. Gonna try and match the old green so we'll see.
Got the motor in and all new wood put in the cab and roof. New stock style top put on because I like stock bodies. Drove it for the first time, it was cool. Bringing an old girl back from the dead is fun. Looking now for some 16 inch wires, Gonna run the same combo as my coupe, 6.00 in front and 7.50's in back. Did pick up a 39 trans but that is going to be down the road.
Here is a link to the first time I drove it, hasn't been run in who knows how long. It was a blast bringing her back to life. It is a short video as I have no insurance or working lights on the truck. http://youtu.be/AYrOLnaQQKo
