So i was down in oakland the other day and found this semi rough but rust free 1963 olds dynamic 88. it was in this wear house full of cars and the guy is trying to off some of them. I saw that the latest rod and custom has an article on one of these.
That would make a good daily driver. Does it have the original drivetrain? I saw the article in R&C too, very nice car. What are your plans for it?
it does have the orig drive train in it but the motor seems locked up. i am going to take the heads off and see if i can find the problem. other wise i might go to with the 350/350 combo
i pulled the intake and valve covers and the valley pan and to my dismay i fond the creeping rust fungus. if this pic posts it shold show the p*** valve cover off. i think when this thing was parked it may have had a head gasket problem. more pics to come as i get it torn down. does any one know if the impala motor mount system is the same as the 63 olds? thanks
Looks like a pretty sweet ride. The Paint on the R&C Car is Killer!! I now want an Olds. What are your plans with it?
Sweet car. With that hardtop roof, if you slam it low, it would really stretch that ****er out, too. I really dig the "not so obvious" car choice. I always gravitate toward ones like that at the shows.
That car on R&C would be lownslow, Donnie Baird owner of Imperial Customs. He is a master painter as you can see with his own ride. KNUX!
Screw the 350/350...I'm thinking big block with a tunnel ram and two big ones sticking thru the hood.
thanx for the input i need to get the heads off first and evaluate were i sit, but yeah if it is toast bbc might be the way to go... does anyone know if the motor mount system in this is the same as the impala? and yeah i am going to go low with it, i saw some one on the cl***ifieds had a set of supreme's for sale. hope fully i can still find some when i'm ready.
so i finally got a little time to get to work on the engine removal here are some pics. thanks to big old for the sggestion for eng/****** removal as one. by the way if yo ever have to go for a verification at a california dmv make sure it looks complete, i had to put the top end together in the parking lot as i was getting inspected. i had this inspected before i tore the engine out
Dude we were just talking about old times yesterday. I had an customer that had that exact car. Her's was a mint condition ride. I moved away from that town and I always wonder what happened to it. Nice find!!!!!!>>>>.
i got the head off and i found that the cyl is rotten bad. it also has the slim jim trans in it. I think it will need a sleve at the minimum. and i found a "good running" 394 for 750.00, and a 350/350 for 500.00. does anyone have any idea if there is a kit to put a 350 into one of these? or is getting some generic mounts and fabing it up the way to go?
its kinda hack but one time I put a different motor in a car . I put the motor mounts on the motor and set it in the car and cut new holes with a torch.
I had a 63 holiday HT..394 hydro..great car.... ran into a truck with it.. those engine are pretty good.. 1939fiat
the engine is frozen solid and i think the piston will break if i try to remove it. bummer. i found a 350/350 combo in a car that i got to see and hear run, i am going to go that way. i dont have the $ to do a proper rebuild on the 394 right now, and from what i understand those slim jim trans are pricey to rebuild also. i'll post more pics as it goes, thanks for the input
bttt, gonna get my engine this weekend and i am stoked, its a 350/350 combo. with any luck be running soon
got the new donor engine and trans, yeah i know its an sbc but the price was right and it will be on the road sooner. i'll post more pics when i go to install it.
finally got over to my 63 olds and started test fitting the engine and trans so i can make the mounts. its getting close more pics to come
got a little work done this weekend, started to fab up the rear trans mount using the donor car's origanl crossmember<72 impala>. i started by but welding 3 inch extensions on to the end and then test fitting to the frame and centering it all up once it cam out centered i pulled it back out made and welded a gusset to the top for strnght and for spacing it down
well i finally got a little work done once i got the mount plates secured to the frame i was able to get the trans cross member ready and install the SBC now i need to find some rear dump style headers and make a drive shaft.
