I've been working on this car for about three years, in between work, side jobs, and writing a couple novels. I built the car in my garage, on jackstands, pretty much by myself. I put the Camaro front subframe and 8.8 rear under it, built the bumpers, grille, filler panels, taillight surrounds, inner fenders, and about two million brackets. It has a roller cam 5.0 with Holley 600 and an HEI distributor, AOD with cooler and fan, Detroit Radiator radiator with twin fans and Derale controller, Rostra cruise control, and all new power brake system. I installed a new windshield, new gaskets around the windshield and rear window, and new window run channel, door seals, and vent window seals. The Camaro suspension components are all new, including rotors and calipers. I used Lokar cables for the parking brake, throttle, cruise control, and tv cables, as they make brackets to make them all work together and I'd been having trouble cobbling everything together myself. Expensive, but totally worth it, in my book. I used a Lokar shifter as well, after trying to make some old shifters I had lying around work. Again, it was pricy, but works great and was easy to mount and make work. This car was built to drive. I live on a dirt road, and have been driving it to town (50 mile round trip) for parts and pieces for a home remodel project, as well as tooling around the countryside. I've put over 1,200 miles on it in the last month. It's no beauty queen, but it's fun and solid. It's in sealer for now, and will get sanded down and painted after I'm sure everything is where I want it. I do have all the Fairlane side trim and plan to install it after paint.
That’s so cool. Glad to see your putting miles on it. Did the camaro sub frame line up widths wise? I Want to put a sub frame under my 55 Fairlane and wasn’t sure if the camaro would fit Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Looks great! Wheels look good! What size wheels & tires are they? Cut-outs for the radiator are sano.
very very nice. It's just got a great look to it. looks like a well thought out and executed project. Glad to see it at a car show.........I'm remembering you told us you were banned from the Alamosa show, lol.
Thanks for all the nice comments, guys! The Camaro sub fit inside the Ford rails with just a tiny ***ist from a Porta-Power...had to spread them about 1/8". The wheels are 15x7 , and the tires are 235/60/15. Thanks for the kind words. A couple of those pictures are from the Early Iron Show in Alamosa...the fella who didn't want me there isn't quite as influential as he thinks... Thanks!
I designed it in Printmaster, sent a jpeg of it to the local print shop, and put it in a cheap Walmart frame.
Local politics...one of the members didn't like my comments about his behavior and mounted a campaign to get me blackballed from the show. It didn't work. His ****hurt didn't add up to enough of a reason for the rest of the club.
Went to a gun show on the other side of the Valley today...drove around the countryside on the way home, looking for cool backgrounds for a few pics.
Great pics. Gotta love Colorado. What do they use on the roads up there in the winter? I'm not sure I ever knew when I lived there....or cared. Here in our area they spray some kind of an ice melt on the roads prior to storms coming in. Don't know anything about it, but you can see the stripes on the pavement on bridges, inclines, etc. I have no idea if it's corrosive or if it even gets on the cars after it's dried.
Around here, it's mostly sand anymore. They used to use use mag chloride, but it's tough on roads. https://www.hcn.org/issues/270/14621
The stickers are $2.50 each, shipped in the US, $3.15 to Canada. PayPal works best, but I'll take a postal money order. Shoot me a pm if you're interested. [emoji16] T-shirts are in the works, as soon as there's enough interest. Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
