I painted my pickup last thursday, put together by saturday. I started August 10th, finished September 18. What an experience! Lots of late nights, plus it didn't turn out half bad for being done mostly in the dark with a trouble light for light. A BIG thanks for all the help I got along the way. I put up a before picture too.
Congrats on doing it on your own for real. Over time, you will just get better and better through experience...
I used John Deere Blitz Black. The white and red were that new Rustoleum 2X in a can (red was Colonial Red and the white was Heirloom White). For my primer I used Omni 1K high build, and then sealed it with Mason 1K ready to shoot sealer primer. With the John deere paint you have to use John deere paint thinner, and you can't add it all at once. I mixed mine about half and half (give or take a little).
I'd shine up the slots and put them back on. Looks good...wonder what that black would look like if you shot it with some clear...just curious.
Looks good, Jesse. Whoever laid down that paint for you must be awesome I have laid HotRod Flatz clear over it, and it looks good. Does make it more gloss, of course. I would like to try it with Wanda's new flat clears.
yes I was going to ask what you did with them too. I could take them off your hands?......for some bucks of course
Yes, I agree! Put the slots back on and get rid of those red wheels...or do what you want after all it's your truck.
Looks great. Man you got that done fast. Go with the slots! If you like the red, you can paint the inside of the slots red after you polish them up.
Don't go with the slots! That way I can use them on my truck. Plus you don't want to move two sets of wheels all the way across the country
Truck looks great. The Slots are fine, but I have a soft spot for Red Wheels. I don't care what colour the car is, gotta have Red Rims. Unless of course the colour of the car doesn't suit Red Rims,.......then I'd go for 5 Slotters
well, i don't know when I'll get around to going through the whole pickup. This was kind of a quick job and i wanted a good seal on the body... plus the high build hid some of my body work and waves and such. Plus, I live in southwest kansas and I'm moving to york, pa in a few days and I have no idea what kind of weather conditions i'll run into up there as far as ice and salt goes. I don't want the truck to get any worse than it already is. It was a lot of prep for the blitz black paint though... .
