I enjoy engines and ch***is work. I'm just starting to learn metal shaping sheet metal. But most of all, I love racing, 2 wheels or 4.

Welding, fabricating and machine work is a lot of fun to me. I also love to make parts that you can't buy or need to be modified.

Designing parts and wiring. They are two different things for me. I like to design and build one off parts basically a prototype that has to work the first time. I also like to design stuff to be manufactured such as my wide five adapters and covers, disc brake kits, master cylinder kits, etc. Wiring is different in that I get into a zone where my eyes are not really focused and I am slinging wire creating a master piece while keeping all the circuits in my head.

Horizontal aerobics a couple times a week, with my 'personal trainer' helps keep me in shape for the shop work. Fabrication is my favorite, suspensions, driveline, improving the fit of body parts.

I too like wiring but I like to do it from scratch not a plug by number kit...

I absolutely love poking around in an old junkyard or wrecking yard with lots of old parts that were forgotten....always the anticipation of finding a really cool 'something' I can use....it puts a smile on my face every time....big or small:D--------Ray

Upholstry. I actually figured out I was best at this kind of late. I worked in a leather shop as a kid...making boots, wallets, belts, etc. Fast forward 20 years...its amazing how much transferred over to upholstery. I sure like it better than body work and painting, thats for sure which I do on a regular basis.

Like most building engines, general mechanical work but to pick one Paint and bodywork.

  12. Hustling parts and projects is tied with welding and fabrication. Parts and people are what make this thing of ours tick and I love, love, love making a good deal with good people. Then I love, love, love taking hard materials and cutting, heating, bending and welding to create a functional, better piece of equipment.

I like fixing problems. Broken down cars, boxes of parts that can be made back into something useful.
I also like wiring and I'm doing that in one of my cars now...it's like an art form, right up to the point I realize there is something I want to add to an otherwise completed section.
Then I open a beer and contemplate the destruction of 100 tie wraps.

i much prefer driving a car than working on a car. If i could i would just pay someone (possibly one of you) to just build exactly what i want and then i could just drive it and enjoy it. And, this is actually my eventual goal.

But yeah, to comment on OP's original statement, i think wiring is actually the easiest thing on a car because you can route the wires however and wherever you want.

  15. Hate to admit it but I really like the time I spend sanding before paint. The hours on a long board where you focus on nothing but what you are doing works wonders for my head.

I like a few things... Wiring=Making things from scratch, Fabricating= Drawings/Templates/Fabbing/Installing and seeing fruition.......Then the love / hate of going through everything .....But the finished/driving/knowing I did it myself thing is what I get the most kick out of.

  17. I love attending car auctions. It's a rush when I win something I really want. Selling can be a two edge sword.
Sometimes it's sad to loose money on something but it feels accomplishing and great when I win and actually pull a profit.
I find it hard not to wink, nod or wave a finger when something is on the block I really want but have no business buying.
It's a serious addiction for me.

Nothing better than scoring something grungy at a Swap, taking it home, and making it a thing of beauty again.

I LOVE to do it once and do it right whatever I tackle whether it be fabbing/mounting a part, fixing a broken thing or putting something together. It then performs as it should generally for good and that gives me pause for knowing the joy that it brings down the road due in part to my having a part in the mechanics of the objects involved. No items left over. I remember a fellow telling me that when his dad had bolts n things left over from a rebuild that was a positive (I cringe when I hear things like that). Quality takes time and while I do my best to be efficient, I take the time whether it pisses people off or not (they may not fully understand). Our lives and others depend on many of these things we choose to undertake. It encomp***es integrity, mechanical understanding and ethical decision making. It is the best medicine in our mechanical world. I live, LOVE and breathe it...There is a lot of that LOVE here as I see it time and time again. Its just great it is. Great post trollst.

    Polishing old aluminum speed parts.
It starts with removing gouges, then I get into a zen-kinda zone until the piece becomes a mirror.

I like doing things like my heater box that now houses a pair of gauges and my heater and a/c controls. I like the small details that most people dont see, but when someone does spot something you know there really looking your car over. DSC02865.JPG

I enjoy engine turning (damascene ) . I developed a rather simple system and some fixtures to ***ure even spacing and have done several gauge panels, some for friends, and a firewall. Even sold a couple I did as practice. But my real pleasure is ***embling a rebuilt, modified engine. Firing it up for the first time and hearing it rev is what hot rodding has been to me since I was 16 years old.

searching & scrounging for 40 Ford memorabilia. have several bags of photos, stickers, decals, tags, etc for a s****book someday. have a full collection of 1940 license plates from each state including Hawaii & Wash, DC. getting all the plates was quite the challenge.

  27. My absolute favorite thing is to get a non running engine going again.

When I was a kid back in Hawai'i I would take a battery, tools and a gas can out to the old car graveyard off of railroad avenue and spend all day going from car to car and making them run again!

To this day it is my absolute favorite part of any car build. I'll go buy, or be given some non-running pos and get totally engrossed in making it run again.

I should probably leave that part until last because my motivation seems to wane after that! ;)

I really like when my wife comes out to the garage and crawls in the 57 and talks about the first time she ever rode in a 57 chevy. I usually don't even spend the time to take my shoes off, you don't have to ask me twice.

Hate bodywork welding grinding sanding, love it when it turns out good and I know I did it. Wrenching is therapy for me.
