I'm in the process of a very close clone of Milners coupe .any ideas on where to get cheater slicks , crome reverse 14 x 6 rims and the arrow headlights and the proper pedal asembly .thanks
Do they have Grafitti clone only car shows??? It's time to get a life and build a real hot rod instead of a copy that has been copied so many times that you can see a line of them at some Goodguys shows.
What? I would venture to say that a large percentage of everyone on this board copies something from someone else's car at some point, so what is wrong with a clone?
Build the clone. Follow your dreams, not the sheeple haters. Pedal ass'y can be a repro from Titus here on hamb, or orig Ansen swing pedals, OR you can mod the 60-62 Chevy pickup underdash swing ass'y like I did. That dual cyl is 60-62 Chev truck. The Titus and Ansen have the clutch using the left bore, and stock Chev uses the right bore. Just switch the master cyl innards if using the non-stock pedals. Maybe Wheelkid on hamb can build your wheels. The other parts; I don't know where to get. By the way, WELCOME to the hamb.
very few have ever been built that were true clones some came close but really dropped the ball along the way,If done true to form this is still a timeless hotrod that was what got hotrods back on the map in the 70s and brought them back from the dead...all the best on this venture how many old school rods are based on or copies of some other rod......GOOD LUCK and have fun FYI Ive got detailed pics of the car from when I hauled it to shows for Rick including measurements if ya need them
Funny how we condemn him for wanting to build a clone of a car he likes and yet we fall all over Von Franco for building two clones of Grabowski's car. Personally, I would love to have a clone of the 55 in Two Lane Blacktop and would do it exactly like the one in the movie. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And this is sitting stored away in our shop because my one Son loves the Graffiti coupe and is collecting parts so he can build one after he gets a few other cars out of the way. Don
To all the haters: it's his car, his dream, and what he wants to build....regardless of what you want to see or not. To 32 Graffitti: Build what you like. You'll find that some people on here have a tendancy to be complete a-holes sometimes. Sure the car has been replicated time and again but its your car and your money and your dream. Keep at it.
http://www.projectthx138.com/Photo%20Gallery.htm I read somewhere years ago that the rear tires were a sears brand tire.
Grabowski's was an actual, real car, built and driven by a real person. The clone in question was a movie prop. It was driven by stunt drivers and an actor portraying a character, on a movie set. Big difference. I have no dog in this fight, just stating facts....
Well there were two 32 Grafitti clones at the Portland Roadster show last year along with one Yellow Model A coupe claiming to be a Grafitti car. The car has been copied so many times and often poorly that it is becoming a joke. I can see making a clone of a car that doesn't exist anymore as in the case of any number of noted race cars from the 40's and 50's that either got destroyed or changed over the years so it wasn't recognizable as the version you are cloning. Yes almost all of us borrow ideas from cars we like and use those ideas. But those borrowed ideas are usually blended into an original build that isn't a clone of anything. You could go to the LA Roadster Show and put all of the Black 32 Ford Highboys in a row and at first they would look alike but then when you started looking at them most would have subtle differences that made them distinctive from the rest.
if i ever get around to buying a32 wether it be glass or a brookville (about 30 mins from my house) or an original it MAY just end up a milner clone except it would be adifferent color with aford engine in it but all other outward appearences it would obviously be a milner based machine and the milner car WAS/is a real car and the people who drove it were living breathing people it wasnt a car from a issue of car-toons and as much as everyone wants them to be real zombies arent real
Yeah, Norm's car might have been his but it was also a "movie prop car" as part of it's life. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the two cars VF did and think he did what so many of us would have loved to do if we had the skills he has and the access to so many correct parts. Just trying to make a point that why is one clone ok and another not ok. God knows there are a bunch of tribute cars running around done to look like Kookies car and a bunch to look like Milners coupe, but if that is what the owner wants it is his dream and his money. Don
doing Grabowski's car as it sits now would be the last link in the cloning chain. Kinda like coming full circle.
but i'm not understanding your argument over his choice to build the car. Is it not his money and his dream? If he wants to drive the Milner Coupe; who has any right to tell him he can't? I can undestand having a tiff with someone who wanted to make a clone but didnt finish it to high standards and cut corners. If the car is done well and finished to be a true clone then all the more power to the builder/owner.
Build what you want, although that happens to be the car that caught my eye as a kid, and changed me into a gear head. Your money, your dream... Do it, and good luck! Eric
Out of curiosity, how does a fictitious character from a movie script (Milner), or a movie prop, suddenly become "real"? There is no "real" when it comes to Hollywood (that I'm aware of, anyways). It's entertainment. Again, I have no dog in this fight, but I'd really like to understand the fascination over the movie and the car. Please teach me...
I'm a Wilbur clone. He's always been just like I always wanted to be. So my question is this I have never been in or even close to the American Grafitti Five Five. I am personally not a fan of tri five Chevies, they are sosch cars, but alas I digress. Back to my question, is there something wrong with the stock peddle assembly in the chevy? Why would they go to the expense to change it out for a movie? Sorry I'm just not a big movie buff and don't have a clue what they used or why. I do think that Ferris Bueler's Day Off was a pretty good car movie though, I would love to have a clone of that car.
I don't understand why it make a difference why he wants to clone it. Alot of people were introduced to hot rodding through the movie, I was 7 when it came out and went to see it at the drive in, when I first saw it I thought it was awesome. Yes if you stand back you can pick it apart, but it still represents something to people, like someone who grew up near a certain car, or always wanted a type of car their friend may have had or someone they knew had. Does it matter that it was in a movie? It's not like he is walking around trying to be John Milner, he wants to re create a car that means something to him.
Two pages and only like one or two post's with help on the questions he asked.......WOW! This was not a clone or not to clone thread. Start your own insted of getting this one off track. "32 graffiti" try using the seach function first before asking a question. As most questions have been asked many times over the years. I'm sure you will find a wealth of info about the AG coupe!
we all look at the world thru different eyes.but what i see is a car that represents a gone-by era.i think that the movie ag sparked a re-newed interest in hotrods. they seem to have been dying out by the time the movie was released.i had not seen any on the streets in a long time before the movie but after that they started to appear again.new companies sprang up to meet the demands.that was good thing, i think.every hotrod on the road now has copied something or all of a car that was biult before it.after 70 + yrs of hotrods you have to finally run out of original.i noticed after looking at all the hotrods over the yrs that after awile they start to look alot alike.but thats ok by me i still love hotrods, hell i love almost all old american cars.even if the clone builder dont hit the mark he still ends up ahead of the game. he has a hotrod in his driveway.and thats a good thing.
Yup, wrong intake. Needs to be a Man A Fre if he is going to do it right. Don't get me wrong, the Offy is a nice piece I owned one. But, like Mr48 said, there are far to many half assed clones out there.
Hurst, Coker, Radir, and Towel City all make cheater slicks. I'm sure one of the Alliance venders will have the wheels. Not sure about the kind of headlights. Looks like some people got their corn flakes pissed on this morning.
