We will be visiting the SE part of the US in Sept this year. Won't make it for Shades of the Past but can make the Grand Fall Run at Pigeon Forge. Anyone know anything about it?

Also plan on going to the Delta River run in Memphis on our way to the Lone Star Nationals

    Thanks

You'll get conflicting commentary on the show itself.... Which is OK but not great.

BUT there are literally thousands of cars in Pigeon Forge for the weekend - many parked in the same spot all along the strip all weekend ( think of a GIANT classic used car lot) There's also a lot of cruising, although with all the traffic it's slow going. I'd guess the strip is 6-8 miles long and 3-4 lanes on each side, and it's bumper to bumper all weekend.

What we usually do is go up early Friday. I drop the wife off at the outlet mall - tons of shopping for the ladies - then I spend all day at the show. After that I pick here up and instead of staing in P.F. We dive another few miles to Gatlinburg, still touristy but way more laid back. Lots of interesting shops and attractions (the Ripleys Aquarium is great) and some nice restaurants.

Next day we do it again - sometimes the wife goes with, sometimes she dies her own thing. Makes a nice weekend for the whole family.

Keep in mind I only live a couple of hours away... But I'd say if you're passing thru anyways why not.... It's an experience at any rate.

Make reservations early and be ready for super inflated room rates!

Get the rooms early, park the car and take the trolley.

I agree. It's an ok show not great like it used to be. Imports and diesels seem to have a run of the cruising at night. During the day the odds of seeing something good cruising is a tiny bit better but not by much. From mid morning Friday to latr Sunday it really is bumper to bumper most of the time. I used to go Spring and Fall all weekend. Now I just ride over the mountain to check it out for the day and turn around and leave after a few hours. Love diesels respect some imports but would rather not spend most of the day looking at mini-vans with the doors open and beads hanging down. Just my .02 lol

If you cannot make the Shades ... I guess the GRAND would be OK

But I would not ride 50 miles to see the event. It is a Camaro/Mustang/import fest. The complete town is full of " cars " but 95 % of them would not interest a HAMB minded traditional person.

    The traffic sucks ..
    the room rates sucks
the crowd as a general rule SUCKS.

I realize that things change and more and more folks join the hobby and bring different ideas and different rides ... but the GRAND just is not for most here.

On the PLUS SIDE ... the mountains are nice that time of year :D :D

So, the spring rod run is more for guys like us, and the fall grand is more for 20 year olds with tuner cars...is that correct pretty much?

  11. I've been one tine,,I don't foresee me going back.

The mix of cars are geared more to the muscle car and import cars. HRP

  12. Went once since i moved to this end of the state, WILL NOT go again!

Everything BUT traditional hotrods. Well, I guess I did see a dozen or so, out of thousands. Traffic was insane, even for PF.

I went a few years back, got a nice 4' tall trophy for long distance.............we were very disappointed with the type of cars and the expense of staying in town.......................just not enough old cars for my taste. I would look for a cheaper area and another show........................
