  2. ...look up John Jones, at Kustom Coach Works (KCW) on Kimball St in Grand Junction. Although he mainly does VWs, he has turned out some killer Shoeboxes, and Mercs, and etc.

I live about an hour away and go to Grand Junction often. The economy is OK. There have been a lot of lay offs recently, mostly in the oil and gas industries, but overall this part of Colorado is doing pretty well. There are no speed shops, but there are a couple of car builders. There is a couple of car clubs, and there is a drag strip. Not much happens during the winter obviously, but there are some good shows during the summer.

  4. Most of the action is around Grand Junction. There is some in Delta and Montrose, but mostly during the Summer. Quality of life is better in the areas surrounding GJ (Fruita, Loma, Parachute, Palisade), but the area itself is absolutely gorgeous! High deserts, mesas, the Bookcliffs...hell, if I had my way right now, I'd be back in that area (grew up there!).

Of course, these days, there are a lot of Californicators living there, trying to screw up the area with their ways, but lots of other locations are having those infestations, too.

Although I live a decent ways from GJ, I have spent some time there. It has a very desert like climate, lots of 4x4 interest being so close to Moab, and sweet scenery. There is a smaller college there so that helps to stimulate the local economy, but recently the surrounding areas that WERE booming on the oil and natural gas wave have slacked off alot as Capt Crash mentioned. The weather is generally nicer there than in Denver, by nicer I mean warmer, but GJ does get its share of snow. Only a little more than an hour or so from awesome skiing.

    Hope that helps...
