I have experience dipping with citric acid powder as well. You only need to mix it about half as strong, but it wears out in half the time. So, overall the cost is the same. Both results are fairly equal, and both need a thorough rinsing immediately afterwards. They both are not harmful to people or the environment, except for the stink of the molasses.

I use citric acid for local environmental reasons. I can put a mesh screen and magnet on the intake hose of my pressure washer, and use it to clean the sidewalk and street in front of my shop, in my busy city business district.

The same cannot be said for molasses.

  3. The front of my hood had significant rust. I used an under-bed storage bin, set the front of the hood in it with the citric acid. I had it lashed to my deck railing. after a few days, it was good to go. If course always neutralize the acid with baking soda and water after.

Strong, burns your skin. Fast, check your part often. Needs neutralizing or it will flash to rust again. I use it for hardware and small linkage parts. It foams on rusty stuff, don't screw the cap on your jar tight, it makes pressure. Nice part is the super fast angle. Saves me blasting or wire wheeling. I re-use it a zillion times. Don't spill it on anything you like. Dis-colors stainless (IE: the sink if you don't rinse immediately). I use it full strength, you can dilute to taste. Something the size of a yoke could be worth a shot. Mike

On small parts I have done this a lot then save the EvapoRust to use several times over.
