Well, today I was off work and everyone else in my family had to go to work. So, it was my turn to babysit my grandson. He is almost two now and lives with us since my daughter does as well. Anyway, after he woke up, drank some milk, and watched a little Sesame Street, I remembered that the SW Street Rod Nationals was going on this weekend. Seemed like much more fun to me than watching Sesame Street, so we loaded up and went down to check it out. This is only his second car show but he already understands which cars are cooler than others. Or, at least that is my take. We saw several friends that I talked to and he got to meet and checked out some of the cars. I have to be honest that it was a pretty big let down after being at the Gathering at the Roc last weekend. My opinion is still that they should have kept the ‘48 cutoff. Seeing cars from the 90’s at an event called Street Rod just isn’t right…. My grandson didn’t go with me last weekend though so he doesn’t necessarily know the difference. A few pics I took of him in front of stuff he liked (or maybe it was me, but you know what I mean). I would have taken more but he isn’t versed in how to not touch stuff yet. So, I only chanced a couple without him being restrained to the stroller.
Hot damn you pulled the grandpa card out for this one!!! My granddaughter is 9 and we are going to start a T bucket build this winter if I can get my woody in the spare garage next month or so. Aren’t grandkids the best
It's getting to the point where if a car show wants to break even for all the costs to put one on, they are starting to admit newer cars to get more paying participants.
Well…I did look at some shirts for him but didn’t find a decent one. And, he already has more toy cars than my boys even had. He is set on those between me and my two sons. He doesn’t have a chance of not liking this stuff. But, now I feel bad for not getting him something.
I actually sent that picture to my wife since she likes convertibles and said that he picked out a car for her. She liked it and asked if we bought it when I saw her this evening. I told her that we likely couldn’t afford that one even if it was for sale… But, he obviously knows that grandpa has a Merc too.
That is cool. My grandson is just 15 months and probably will be way more cowboy than hot rodder but he did go to his first car show a few weeks ago.
You got him something - a great day out with his grandpa doing something fun. That will last longer than a shirt or Matchbox car. Cheers, Harv
My oldest grandson is 3 and he has already been to three back to the 50's car shows and many others! He really enjoys riding in "Papa's" hot rod. You have to raise them right!
Better than tv. Period. Kids being around people smiling and enjoying life has to leave a good impression.
