All my daddy left me was alone.....or, is that a loan.

Anyways, dad had nothing much.....I did end up with his tools and a p***ion for machinery, so all was not lost.

My dad left me his '32 coupe and '32 roadster. My mother was still alive when he p***ed but she was battling cancer. At one point the roadster got sold to help pay for medical but I still have the coupe. Grew up riding in the rumble seat. I sure miss the old guy.

No cars left to me, but it was my grandpa got me started working on machinery, which was the genesis of my love for things mechanical. When I was about 8-9 years old he came home from an auction with an old Maytag motor that he bought for 50 cents. This was back in 1962 or so. We tore it apart, cleaned all the crud out of it, put it back together, and after a couple of kicks it started. I have it to this day, sitting under the bench in the shop. It gets run every couple of years, brings back great memories every time I hear it pop and belch smoke.

Jim P, that is a sweet ride. I bet you think of your dad every time that you reach for the door handle, and I bet that somehow he knows it too. Very cool.

A few weeks ago my 7 year old son, who was at the time sitting on my Harley, says to his 10 year old brother,"Steve, when dad dies you can have the old blue car and I'll take his motorcycle". Guess I better get that will made out. Hope they're not in a hurry. Forty three must seem pretty old to a 7 year old.

  18. My dad is still alive (94 and a 2 time cancer survivir), when he retired, he gave me his 55 chev 4 door and later I got his 69 cadillac.

I here you--My 11 year-old grandson walked thru the garage taking inventory--looked over at me and said "What are you going to do with this stuff when you die".

Dad's still alive. 86, one leg and still driving everyone crazy. Cool.
Grandpa was a total car guy. Owned a gas station on 50 in Indiana. Was the curator of the Indy 500 Museum until his health went away. He used to fly me to Indy every Summer and I had free run of the track thanks to all the work and contributions he made to racing. I miss him still. Didn't get any of his cars but that's Ok.

Its not hamb worthy but I did get my grandpas 79 GMC that he bought new. Its 3-speed on column with 76,000 miles. Im only 36 and my 6 yr old daughter has already laid claim to the 31 modela sedan project I have. Its hard to convince a 6 yr old that pink just isnt kosher!

I still have my grandpa. He's in his early 70's now, he's had his share of bad health issues, but he's doin better all the time. Works on the TO20 tractor and his 51 and 48 Ford trucks nearly daily. He told me he wants me to have the house, it's been in the family since the early 1800's. I tell him every time to just surprise me, we're not having this conversation, and I don't want his stuff for a long, long time.

But this server couldn't handle the list of tools and old parts he's given me, along with the years of knowledge he's managed to cram into my only 25 year old skull. But some of the coolest are the chest of Hot Rod Magazines dating back to the late 40's, and the hand made steel toolbox full of hand made machinist tools that belonged to my great and great-great grandfathers, who were both machinists for the Illinois Central RR, where my grandfather was also an electrician.

Oh, and the 54 Chevy truck that we built together is pretty cool too!

My Great Aunt, left me my T coupe, but before she p***ed, I had to promise not to make a hot rod out of it. Her Dad purchased it new.

  24. From one grandpa I got nuthin'... The other one I got a few tools and some of his golf trophies, and a baseball signed by the '49 American League All-Star team (on a National League ball), and another one signed by the '51 Detroit Tigers.

Dad is already talking about me taking his 1938 South Bend 15" swing gap lathe... It's one big, heavy MFer...

  25. Both of my grandfathers died before I was born. My brothers and I were born in the late 70s while all my cousins were born in the mid 60s. So we didnt end up with anything.

There are family heirlooms that my parents have that will go to us like furniture and china, but nothing in terms of car related.

My one grandfather was a welder at the Brooklyn Navy Yards during WWII and up to the early 70s at Beth Steel. My other grandfather was a railroad worker for Long Island RR and photographer. Out of all of my cousins and my two brothers I am the only one who has worked for a railroad, photograph as a hobby and weld as a profession. I like to think they p***ed down to me their joys in life, because from what my parents told me..they loved what they did.

Sad thing is that my mother p***ed away in 2004 and now all my cousins want items that were hers. She was an antique dealer and dealt with high priced antiques. I don't know if they realize it, but my brothers and I got nothing from them when our aunts and uncles p***ed away. I would much rather have my family still around then items from them. My father understands and won't give anything away. It stays with my brothers and I.

My father did say I get is 2005 Harley Road King, Lionel Trains, guns and Signed baseballs when he goes.

When my Pop-Pop p***ed away, I was 11 years old. He was a tool and dye guy for 40+ years. My mother was an only child and I am the only grandson. He had some great tools. He taught me how to fashion all sorts of stuff. Anyway, while the family was at his funeral, his POS brother who'd driven out here from Ohio in a truck, went to my grandparents house and took everything from the workshop. I mean everything. Even the stand up drill press and the lathe and the table saw. We still don't know who helped him get the stuff out of there. We know it was him because my grandmother thought she was robbed and had, of course, noticed he hadn't showed up at the services. His excuse was something along the lines of he deserved of. You can not make this stuff up. Ahh, what could have been. I just wish I had been about 10 years older at the time.

my grandpa is still with us although my grandma is not :(

He always shares stories with us of his old coupe he bought with pocket change, the floors were rotten out of it and he used to hammer down through the snowy roads with it, holding a shovel close by so he could shovel the snow out of the car if it got bad.

Also talked about him and his buddies going out for a friday or saturday night cruise down to the local watering hole, get loaded, then drive home like a bunch of animals.

My grandpa was a rebel :D

My grandpa died in his sleep last night and my father and I are driving north on I75 at this moment from Tennessee to Michigan. He built engines for 60 plus years and taught me how to build an engine properly.

  30. Ozelle the '55 Ford (named for my mother) is a work in progress, but she was purchased new by my parents at Drake Motor Company, Ford dealer here in Rockmart GA. 272, 3 on the tree, and 4 doors. I was the only child, so she became mine. My father wasn't a gearhead, didn't care anything about working on old cars but he'd help me with stuff just to spend time with me. My gearheadedness comes from my mother's side of the family, all of my maternal uncles were good at fixing cars.
