PM GMC Bubba he'll be able to help you convert one or the other. The FE spins the same but different firing order, and the SBC is opposite. An Olds or Pontiac would be perfect.

You could also call mason Racing Ignitions in PA. Pat Mason is both an ignition/magneto specialist, but also a fully equipped machinist. His number is 610-287-1511.

Yes we make up different bases for the units. Have done quite a few , the rotation does need to be the same if posible , makes it a little easier. Can change the rotation but requires a total tear down etc.

I have a customers Oldsmobile Grant in the line now to make into a Pontiac. Will save the base and use a FE for parts.

Bubba, from what I've read those grant spauldings although cool as hell looking, can be a pain to setup due to the twin 4 cylinder type internals. are you converting them to electronic to ease maintenance or would sticking to something like an MSD box that would make the points last longer and stay in spec be better?

Actually the trick is to use a good set of points and a internallly resistive ignition coil. I have one made for us here in Indiana that has a internal ressitance of 4 ohms and they run very well for a long time. We have a couple here in town running for a lot of miles with very little maintance.
