I need help or some ideas ..I have a 55 Packard we tried putting on a grant wheel today well to start off they do show a kit for my car but since Packard stole some parts from GM and Chrysler i thought maybe i can make one of those kits work the problem is i cant find a grant book to see what size the kit is to slip over the splined end of the steering shaft It is huge compared to a standard type Gm or Ford any ideas would be great....Where i can get something to mate up.

they had a kit specifically for your car and you got something else just cos it might work? Sounds like you should just get the one that was listed for your vehicle...

Do you enjoy making things more difficult then they should be? [IMG]

  4. Try Kragens or Pep Boys.

They usually have a Grant application catalog hanging on a chain in the steering wheel display.

How about measuring the shaft diameter and the angle of the spline and spline count and start opening adapter boxes, Or at least post those specs here so we can cross ref. some wheels.

What about swappin' out the splines for something that will mate up properly to the Grant? You say the Packard steering shaft splines are wider, right?

It might take some machining, but if the splines are wide enough, I would look into cutting them off flush, then you can bore into center of the remaining packard spline stock, place new (correct sized) splines into the hole you just made then key (and or weld) the two pieces of metal together.

why mess with a grant wheel? my car came with one and i couldnt yank it off fast enough to put the original one back on!!!if you want a smaller diameter wheel (dont know why you would) i'd just get a moon wheel or something.just my 2 cents.

2 things you can do,one is buy a weld on quick release for a stock car from Speedway, you can cover up the ****on release with a cone of sometype. Also it'll make it easy to remove your wheel to make the car theft proof!! [IMG]
And what i did was take the original wheel, hack the wheel & spokes off it as close to the hub as you can, take the hub & throw it in a wood fire till all the plastic burns off it.grin the spoke nubs off it put the grant wheel on it & drill new holes!! Viola hub that fits & it cost nothin!!! [IMG]
