I've always loved Watson's G****vine, but being the owner of a Fleetline, I thought I would go a different direction. Well, over the years of looking at it, I have decided to do a Fleetline version of it...of sorts. I'm not going to copy it exactly, I'd mostly like to scallop mine like it....in black with copper scallops. My trouble is in resolving the scallops across the back into the Fleetline body shape, mostly in the back window area. Any of you creative guys have any ideas? Here is the back of G****vine and the back of someone's Fleetline (probably someone's on here, I don't remember). I'd love to see some ideas on blending the two. Thanks!
personally i would copy it exactly. the color is a 90's ford color and have you tried printing a pic of it then drawing it out? my best friend randy rhoades built the g****vine clone with the scallops
Totally cool! I was blown away when I saw the clone in Rod and Custom several years ago and thought, "Why didn't I think of that?" I have always loved that car since I first saw it in a book I got for Christmas in 7th grade. I've been planning my Fleetline for 15 years or so and suddenly had the thought several months ago about doing the G****vine scallop job on it....although the fleetline body presents some different shapes at the trunk and back window. I have printed out the pictures and drawn a few options and have taped it out a few times on the car, too. Not ready to actually paint it out yet, so I guess I will mess with it in tape until I am happy with it when the day comes to spray them.
the color randy rhoades used on his clone was sherwin williams 95 ford pink coral metallic w/100 grams of lavender. then the silver scallops of course!
I agree, follow the paint just like it was back then it would be a killer look for you fleetline. With a little work you could even put in the Merc tail lights. Go for it. CRUISER
Thanks for all the input Jon! I appreciate all the other comments in support of my idea, guys, thanks! Jon, I would LOVE Larry's number. Could you PM it to me? I would be SUPER stoked to get his input on the idea and maybe some layout ideas to resolve the difference between the Sedan and Fleetline back windows and trunks. He is the master, after all!
