Watching the Great Biker Build Off tonight on Discovery and the guy from Marieta, GA was driving a sweet looking roadster. I just wondered if he was a HAMB'r, his roadster sure fit the bill.
I started reading the HAMB and forgot that was even on tonight. Good thing Discovery is so fond of re-runs!
The Flying Pan is badass...had no idea thats what he was using for the downtube. And that 'unicorn' bike could have been ruined by one of those disgusting wide ass tires. It looked good too. And back to the subject...the roadster looks familiar, but I want to see more pictures of that '33-'34(?) pickup.
That was a nice pickup, and I do remember a hamber awhile back saying that he was going to be on that show.
truck is Josh Mills'..Young's right hand man..its in OSR #1? good dude and knows his shit..he's helped me plenty with q's roadster I believe was a customers of theirs. not sure if either is a HAMB'r or not...but both definitely belong
The Flying Pan is one of my favorite bikes ever...Chica builds some nice stuff also. That guy johnny chop is a little irritating though
That guy's name should be "Johnny lazy ass mofucker" , Unless they didn't show how much actual work he did do, I would never let that fo' ride my custom cycle!
Don't know if Hank is on here. It's fun to see someone building killer bikes who's not all tattoos and pissy attitude. I like tattoos and pissy attitudes as much as the next guy...but some builders are more about that shit than they are the bikes. Chica is a cool cat too. He's an artist. A lot like the guy w/ owns Zero Choppers. Funny that a bunch of Asian guys are doing it up so well w/ the Harleys.
What is so funny about a bunch of Japanese guys doing so well with the Harley's?????? Nothing. What is funnier is that A lot of factory Harley stuff is now made in china. shhhhh. To be quite honest, I really dig Young's bike. Too bad it wasn't a flathead 80", though. It has a nice 30's worlds faire flair to it. I like the drag race themed bike on his website with the hurst fender struts.
I've admired Chica's work for some time now...always seem to like what he does with a bike! The best part of the show was actually getting to see Chica in action...had never seen a picture of the dude before! One thing that bugged me was the way they added captions when Chica talked...as if you couldn't understand what he was saying! Hank seems like a cool dude, too...I liked his bike, but that Superbell axle insert shoulda been welded in the other way...so the winged "S" logo was pointed down at a slight angle towards the front forks! I don't watch much TV at all, but I dig them biker build-off shows...even though I usually miss 'em and end up hearing about 'em later!
I really enjoyed that show.. those shows always make me hate my computer nerd life though, so it's like a double-edged sword for me. That ride was hard core though!! I don't like riding below 45 or 50 degrees.. let alone 30 or less! Remember.. 65 degrees = wind chill of 32! Great bikes though, I liked them both, and I really liked both builders.
Aw, come on, TinyE...bikes throw HEAT when they run! I used to ride my KZ1000 to work in the dead of winter, so long as it wasn't snowing! With your helmet, coat and gloves on...and the heat coming off that big mill...you don't really notice how cold it is! (Either that, or I was having too much fun hazing off the tire from every other light to really care how cold it was...funny when you see some Urban Yuppie Weekend Summer Biker flip you the "thumbs up" as he drives past in his new SUV with his "Sure I'm a Harley rider!" bumper sticker and his biker costume on!)
I just happened to flip it on and thought I would stick around to see the bikes when some narly dude was tightening down the painted fuel tank with a 12 inch Cresent wrench. I laughed so hard I wet myself. It's like watching American Chopper and see them beat everything together with a big f. hammer. They probably use teflon tape on flare fittings to.
Who was the guy in the Road Kings Jacket? Walked in in the morning carrying a Pizza box? Was that you Butt?
HAHA .. I hear 'ya Hack.. I love the "biker costume.." not to go too O/T on this post but dammit I hate Harley guys who HAVE to wear their Harley T-shirt, Vest, boots, doo-rag.. whatever.. what a lame culture that has become. I'll stick with my Guzzi..
I liked both the bikes. Though, Chicas is not nearly the best I've seen him build, he's done better. The whole competition idea is kinda whacked though. Especially in this case because both dudes are cool as shit. I'm still waiting for Discovery's Great Bathroom Build-Off though.
Thanks for the comment on the roadster and yes it is a hambers car it's mine. It was cool seeing my car on TV.
Dude you're not going to be able to handle the fame. Next thing you know you're going to be marrying a stripper who throws pans at your head, having a shark tank in your office, and trusting the know-how of Autozone. So in the interest of saving your soul, please send that truck directly north of you to PA, don't forget to sign the back of the title. I'll handle the fame for ya.
Does anyone have Hank's website address? He seems like a cool guy. Not hung up on himself or trying to be anything he isn't. I'd do business with a guy like him. JH
I love how Hank Young uses all the oddball parts in his bikes. Go look at the pics of the Flying Pan (my all time favorite bike) and see the pics of how they made the '35 Ford wire wheel work as the back wheel. RULER.
I missed the first 15 minutes of the show, what was with the front wheel on the Young bike? Is that a large "disk" brake out by the wheel rim? Two different style bikes, I thought Chacas bike had more work involved it it. Maybe the film crew spent too much time filming Young crying on the phone and looking at the clock, credit card in hand. They need to spend more time showing the build.
Those are brake disks normallyreserved for Hi-Po bikes. Increased braking radius to the maximum = more efficient braking.
The Roadster is a customer car, we saw it at Shades two years ago, really neat piece. GO TO THE WEBSITE. They recently updated it and it's very cool. I've also bought parts from the "Joe Smith Hotrods" side, good telephone service and quick deliveries, quality pieces, not the lowest price. We've been talking about a side road trip down to Marrieta from Charlotte Goodguys to check out the place (about 4 hours ?). They said no problem for a shop tour. Anybody want to hook up?

They are very cool. I got to go by the shop a couple of months ago. One of the bikes they had built utilized an original 32 wire wheel on a 40 ford juice drum brake for the back tire assembly. It looked awesome - he said it worked well too. I thought that was a great idea. All the bikes they had in there were super sweet. Josh said he gets on the HAMB every once in a while, but he is mostly too busy.
