Went to the spring Pigeon Forge Grand Rod Run last April and was caught up in a set of coincidences that have led me here........ Drove 5 hours in my 58 F100 to the event on Friday evening and my truck shuts off and refuses to fire just as I enter the hotel parking lot. Of all the places it COULD have gone out (like on I-40 between Tennessee and Asheville) Coincidence #1. Hundreds of cars around and the car at the end of the hotel entrance leaves just as my buddy says, "where are we going to park a dead truck?" Throw into neutral and COAST into parking space.Coincidence #2 Quickly diagnose the fuel pump has died and had it off in about 5 minutes (can hardly do that on anything built after 1980) Now where to find a parts store?....all of a sudden a local guy who has shown up to work at one of the stores on the strip is standing next to me asking if he can help. I tell him, at this point I just need to find a parts store. Guy has the Advance part store phone number on his cell phone. 5 minutes later, new fuel pump has been ordered and will be there Saturday morning. Coincidence #3. Saturday morning and the parts store is at the other end of the strip about 3 miles away. The whole strip is a car show ....buddy and I start walkin' and lookin'. We make it about 2 parking lots away and there is a 55 F100 in primer black that I am diggin'. Walk over to check it out and the owner is thrashing on the battery when I strike up a conversation. He says, "It ran pretty good up from SC but the battery is dead this morning. Its old I think I'll get a new one.... you know where a parts store is?" I say, "Yes, as a matter of fact I am walking there now." He says, "my wife brought her car, if you wait until I get this battery out of here, I'll give you a lift." Coincidence# 4. Half hour later we both have our parts and we're talking like we have know each other for years. He says he browses through the HAMB when he isn't at work or tinkering on his stuff. He next offers to drop me off at my truck and help with the pump. After telling him this same story, I tell him that he should drop me off exactly where he found me because my luck is going to run out soon. 15 minutes later, my truck is back and running. Some of you might believe in karma, luck, or whatever. I personally believe God reveals himself to us through situations and through other people in ways that we can understand. Fellow HAMBer - I dont remember your screen name.....but you know who you are. Thanks for being the Good Samaritan and introduction to this site. Cleaver
That is a great story. Glad that it all worked out that way. HAMBers are a helpful group of folks with tons of knowledge. Welcome aboard and enjoy.
