Does anyone here know who Mike Dale is that owned Speed City as seen on the track side billboard? Or know anything about Power Automotive and Jerry Adams? Both were in the same building in Kenosha. My Fiat is connected to Both I think. Just doing some homework. Thanks!
I have 800 35mm slides of Great Lakes Dragaway and Rockford, Ill. drags. The slides are from 1964 to 1969. Wanting to put them to DVD, but that technology and required equipment are beyond my reach. I have 200 to 300 photos from Great Lakes Dragaway and other midwest drag strips. Mostly 1954 to 1960. Those pics may go to disc and I may sell the discs. Anyway, I'll post more pics as time allows.
Great photos and slips.... My car ran at Great Lakes Dragway between 1969 and 1973. Have not had much luck finding photos of it running yet, but I got one of it parked in 70. I will have to scan it. Here is a recent picture. Hyfire
Hi Curt, Those are neat pictures you have. Is there any chance you can look through your stash for pictures of my Fiat Topolino? It ran GLD from 1962-1968 painted yellow as seen in the post. In 1971 it was painted white with the ribbon stripes. I would greatly appreciate your help. By the way, do you still go to the track? Thanks for posting!!!
I am thinking of showing all the slides somewhere sizeable enough for a large group to sit and watch them. I will let you know. Takes about two hours to watch, non stop. We were at GLD Wednesday night, coupla shakedown runs for the Bonneville T roadster. The 324 ci Olds sounded and ran good in the cool air. The B'ville tires weren't much for traction.
I sent this thread to a buddy of mine out in PA. He used to race at "Da Grove" back in the 60s when he lived in Chicago. He said there was a pink and grey 55 Chevy back then that used to race called the "Pink Pulverizer". I know its a long shot, but anyone ever hear of it or have pics?
Hi Curt R Let me know when you get those pictures on a disk, I'll buy one,or show them I'll watch. Thanks
It's interesting how these two photos (one from the 1950s and one from the 1960s) were taken from almost the exact same angle - note the trees in the background. Anyone have a 1970s photo to add?

This is priceless, the pickup crossed up and on one wheel. Looks like the pickup had previous damage and on the looks of things, gonna have more. The Vette with the insane exhaust pipes, man, looks like straight out of Tom Daniel's head (remembering those plastic model kits he designed).
I'm with yah, beebing. I would sure like to know the whole story on this one. Like what on earth is going on here, exactly? -90% Jimmy

Here is an old thread with pics http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156956&highlight=union+grove
great stuff! It saddens me that the events at GLD pale in comparison to the events of yesteryear. I doubt the glory will ever return. Too bad the track owners can't get it figured out. I will do my part and continue to call GLD my home track.
I have some from the stands in '65 that I took and some from the driver's seat of my '64 GTO in '67 while I was in the pits and lined-up to run... but my scanner broke!
seen a picture somewhere, the corvair pickup ended up going off the track, into one of those signs....
I was just given this picture of my Fiat Saturday. It is from 1965. Look at all the cool stuff in the background!
This makes me wonder what is hiding in barns and garages right here in Kenosha and Racine Counties..... I raced a 1969 Camaro in the late 1980s up at the Grove. It was metallic cockroach brown with a black vinyl top, but with a hot 396 / 4-spd combo. I still miss it.
