For years I've been dreaming of building a traditional model A hot rod and would spend hours in the tech archive section learning what I could. Now that the stars a aligning and my dream is coming closer the tech archives are gone and cl***ics like the Rolf Coupe build seem to be missing pics and info. You are rebuilding an flathead, but I didn't see any bodies/ch***is in your threads. Did you pull the trigger on one? What you got cookin?
Hey Clunker, Like I said I've been dreaming of this for a long time and picked up that motor in preparation almost 10 years ago. Then life got in the way. I don't have the body/ch***is yet, but I'm on the lookout for a good complete model A to start from. The build threads are incredibly helpful in learning what to look for. What I see in my head is my '52 flathead powering a mildly chopped, mildly channeled completely traditional model A coupe. The only major modernish part might be the trans. But that's still to be decided upon. Since I have the motor and it needs to be rebuilt I figure I'll start there as I do my homework. ...and while I sell my '53 Chevy. Hey Carl, Never-mind the "use the search" crowd, this is a "discussion board" after all. I am sort of in the same boat as you, but probably a few nautical miles behind. I daily drive a cool old bomb that I've put a lot of sweat and work into, but I'm not gonna sell it. I dig it too much. I am trying to save $$ to buy an old running A, and I eventually would like to build an AV8 ala The Tardel book, but I never really get anywhere because I'm supporting our family (wife and two little kids) on a creative's salary (film biz). I'm no genius when it comes to making $$, so cash and free time are always tight. My plan is to buy a running A, and sort of make a jalopy out of it for now, and dig deeper when life calms down, and try to make a really traditional hot rod. I sort of came close to a few I liked, but missed. Here's two that I really liked; a Roadster and a Fordor. But unless I find someone willing to barter, I will probably have to wait for my kids to get bigger and my wife to work full time, be content working on the old cars and motorcycles I already have.
