Well, Marty I was wrong on two counts. I wasn't white and its got a tall roof. He did a real nice job on it, though. I thought I got it from Coonrod. It was parked out in the middle of a field. Took a bit to get it loaded. I'd give a bit to find another on of those bodies. Norm

Speaking of Willys coupes, here is a couple more. Jack Frost and Chuck Tiller, high rpm small blocks with 4 speeds,I remember the that sound, makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck just thinking about them!

Knew Tiller. Worked at Central Cylinder Head. I think his son is still there.

  6. Rare to see a pic of Annie Fanny with Chevy power. Nice pic of the Scotty's car, funny, I had an almost identical pic I took with my Instamatic! It's long gone now!
Thanks guys, especially Marty, I can't tell you how much I enjoy this thread, PLUS, it shoes a lot of great racers many people from other areas aren't familiar with.
    MORE-MORE!!!!:)

Gary, I am getting more pics, thanks to my pal Bobby Mead, along with his Dad Bob Sr. took most of the shots, from the 40's on up. Thanks for the great responses, it is nice to here from you guys, if you have any memories of racers, share them with us.

    Roger,

That would be awesome! Like I said, these are all my Grandpa's photo work. I know some of these cars from a few different sources, but I would love to I.D. them all if possible. I didn't get any of that stuff from grandpa before he passed away, so now I am trying to learn what I can and piece it all together.

Ron Salisbury's Rumbler pictured on page 21 was previously the Bev's Steak House Woody Gillmore built car owned by Cordy Jensen and Bob McCabe. It was sold to Ron after Cordy switched to a Kent Fuller car.

Bob, Thanks for the info, it takes people like you to solve some of the mystery of the ownership and transfers of those dragsters.
I am trying to find out something on Jonnie Hart's AA Fueler, watched it run at Mac a few times. Guess I have to make a call to Earl Floyd. And Bob, thanks for showing me how to spell Ron's last name.

Mike, Many of the photos I post are not mine, however I don't see why you couldn't. Most of this stuff is history, and the more exposure, the better.

As many times as I have gone completely thru this thread I can't believe that I haven't posted this picture.

It's the very first pass down Woodburn in June 1961. Dick Martin in the roadster and Don Stafney in the '34 coupe and it is a Ford with Chevy advertising. Don still lives across the road from the main gate to Woodburn and he use to run the Mobil station at the Woodburn exit on I-5

Mike, You are making me feel old, that race was almost 26 years ago. I was there, driving the Kent Fuller car in the pic, my how nostalgia racing has grown. We ran a 7.95 at 192.7 and were 1.5 seconds faster than anyone there!

This Hardtop belonged to Keith Randol, the builder of the "Orange Crate", it had a Desoto hemi set way back in it.

Marty..........this was in responce to your picture of the Kalivoda car on Northwest R&C

    Dick Page;
Marty, Terry Seaholm and I played a little "trick" on Kal by announcing on TV that the car would be at the SIR Nostalgia race. Friends began calling Dick offering to help, He said " help what?" LOL It got done and was there...

  21. I can't find you Face Book page! a search says 0 results! Your photo pages are spectacular! Mind if i post some pic's from there? Or...could you post that pic of the Orange Crate at the strip?

I believe there is someone in Oregon that is racing a front engine dragster with a Desoto 291 hemi. Does anyone out there know who he is?

How about some A/SR, these three are the ones I remember most. The Red RPU belonged to the Wusz family, it is the same car in the lead photo in an earlier post about the closing of Scapoose. I am unsure who owned the other RPU,possibly Harold Davis, it looks like the Ramcharger engine was pulled out of their 62 Dodge convert. Harold's wife, Dorothy won a few S/S trophies with that one! It could be Jim Livingston of Woodburn Dragstrip fame,he had one when he lived east of the mountains. The 27 Roadster was Don Roberts, it had a healthy SBC by Schnell Automotive, if I remember correctly. It was a fun class to watch. A closer look at the RPU photo, I see Livingston standing with a shirt that says "Rampage". I will search for a shot of the Davis roadster.

On the subject of the "Orange Crate", this was Bob Tindle's A/FX 63 Ply, aluminum front end factory racer, he called it the "Stompin Savoy", the first stocker in Oregon to run in the 11's, he ran an 11.91 at McMinnville. It was tuned by Keith Randol, builder of the Crate.

The Orange Crate had a history before becoming the Orange Crate. It was built by a fella named Norm Cahil, I believe and raced at Eugene and Scappose with a mighty flathead. He was flat towing from the drags one day and was rear ended stuffing his car into the back of his tow rig and he sold the car to none other than Albert Drake. I think Albert still has a couple of pieces from that car. Anyway, Albert had it parked at his sisters and she wanted it gone and a guy came by and bought it........Bob Tindal.
The Norm Cahil version was in the old little pages magazines.
