Do you think Bill Ireland was plugged in at Ford or not ? He is standing by the dark 427 Fairlane.

Anybody got pics of Gary Wilson's dragster? His wife, Marne, got an ipad and I have gotten him on here a couple of times.

Amazing video on Dorothy Davis! Thanks for posting that! I've not run across it before!

  6. This issue of HRM has a feature on the Orange Crate. The January '61 issue has a story about the '61 NHRA races at Madras and a "Club of the Month" article on the Coasters of Cloverdale, OR.

Can someone post the Oregon articles? Cool history. I think I missed that issue.

  8. I'll scan some old articles as I can. Here's one from R&C, 1958. I don't get how to do multiple pics, so bear with me please!

  9. Here's the last page. It's also the last page of the next article posted. I'd look out for the guy in the club jacket! Seems a little...flamboyant to me. Har har.

  10. Thought this article was very interesting, don't see too many MoPar articles in the 50's!
Anybody have any info on this guy? The car? I wonder what became of it.

  11. Here's a Div 6 race at McMinnville, looks like California cars were coming north looking for easy victories! I don't know if they were getting appearance money.

Cool to see pics of the Rowland dragster. I worked with Monte at Lyman Slack Chevrolet in my younger days. Always seemed to enjoy picking on me for some reason and giving my dad an absolute ration of crap every time their paths crossed. Heard about the dragster but never saw the pictures. Thanks Gary. Monte's son was a regular bracket racer in the late 80's and early 90's at PIR and no doubt lined up against your cousin Marv a time or 2 as well as enjoying a slice of pie from "The Pizza Vendor". Last time I saw Monte was at a CTA reunion held at PIR, he was still the same silly ass character. Equally cool to see the Bob and Terry Tindle '32. Somewhere I've got a pic I took in the early 90's at Bob's private stash/ garage in Aloha, OR of a red on white '32 with a period correct NHRA sticker in the lower right corner of the windshield. Bob asked me to help him do a little cleaning and set up for a party/open house he was having for his Lincoln Club. Parkinson's had taken it's toll on Bob physically and who was I to say no. Silly me, I took a camera along. Could it be the same car? I'll start going through boxes...

Thanks Gary for posting these magazine articles! Love the Packard and all the details of what Everett did to make the car drag ready!

Has anyone heard about a new museum being put together around the Portland area? Cars and Drag racing. I recently watched a video with Snake and Mongoose talking about their Mattel sponsored funny cars and the haulers. Mcewen mentioned it.

If you look tucked behind the '36 you'll see a '32 I'm best guestimating is Bob and Terry's. Looking at the rear view mirror mounting, NHRA sticker in the lower right hand corner of the windshield, color scheme, headlight bar, and the fact it was at Bob's private reserve, etc., I'm about 99.9% sure it's the same car. I took the shot in '91 or '92 and paint was still glowing unless it had been redone still. Kinda wishing I would have taken a few more pics and asked Bob a few questions had I known what it was. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Yep it's being done as we speak. Google World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville Or. It's quite an impressive project with some real serious people involved.

Yes, the sign is up on a building near Wilsonville on the West side of the I5 freeway. It's the old Dodge dealership, and they're renovating it right now. Big banner on the freeway side telling about the museum.

Thanks guys for the info on the museum. I am excited to see it when they open. I also need to get up and see the Lemay Museum in Tacoma.

Same here! My '46 Austin came from the Lemay museum when they auctioned off their culls. I'd like to drive it up there to see the museum now that the Austin is done.
