I just received this picture of my friends great grandfather. It was taken in Texas, Im thinking late 1920's. We are trying to figure out the make and year, but it looks like parts from a few different cars. Front axle and fenders look like Model T, cowl and windshield frame appear to be home made, but the grille shell and hood have us stumped, Any ideas?
Definately started as a Model T. There were many aftermarket speedster kits available, but the body looks somewhat homemade, the hood could be off some other make. Neat car.
The cowl has a big rust hole in it. Id guess its off something that used to be steam powered back in the 1900's era. The car next to it looks new and looks like a 29' maybe?
I did some searching and it looks like a 1910 vauxhall. Not exactly like this but maybe another year.
Maybe only way to spot the suspected donors is old Floyd Clymer books... The guy pretty clearly took the body off his T and then just roamed the junkyards, looking for a chunk of old car with bucket seats, etc. Given the number of short-lived companies in the teens and twenties, I bet the builder himself couldn't ID all the hulks he pillaged.
------------------- Nope. Not a rare custom-bodied Henway. That's a regular '26 Henway ch***is - with a 'standard production' '26 Henway "Made-O-Krap Tailless Speedster" body. But the guy behind the wheel in this pic is quite noteworthy! That's Effingnutz H. Cobbledjunk, famous skitzoid-affective snikophobe, winner of Time Magazine's 1926 'Debaucherer Of The Year' award, inventor of the infamous Edsel "Teletouch" 'steering-wheel-hub-mounted' gearshift mechanism and Henway Motors Corporation chief stylist from 1923 to 1926!!!
