Went out this morning for the swap. $8 to park and had to park in east jahunga cause the whole parking lot was flooded, $13 to get in. Walked it in under an hour. New chrome and powder coat. Almost no rust. Never had to take my hands out of my pocket to pick up anything....I keep saying it... but this really was the last time.
Well, at least there will be one less *****ing about the cost, the at***ude, the convenience, the weather, etc., etc., etc. Now if you'll only keep your word it will be a little less waste of Ryan's playhouse. Frank
New chrome and no rust huh? I guess I missed the memo saying that the goal of car building was to cobble together the biggest pile of **** one can muster. Go read OSR
I gotta agree with him , I think it's been going down hill also, I didn't go . last few times has been slim pickens ,and just a bunch of toys and ****, I miss the old days when you could pay for the swap only.
One shouldn't be dissapointed in any GoodGuys event.....You just have to remember its the automotive equivalent of your average State Fair....Its all about the head count and very little about pleasure for the attendee.
I've been wondering if this new "suede & chrome section" GG's advertising is tryng to keep "those kind" of cars in one area ? I know at a lot of shows nowadays guys with megabux street rods get pretty hot when "unfinished" cars park next to them and/or get all the attention. An older guy I was talking to at Bowling Green about his car said "people been around that damn thing all day", talking about the unfinished car next door. I couldn't help but wonder if all (or most) owners of highly finished cars think the same thing, if they do they surely would have been to the promoters about it. .
i usta sit accross the way from my stuff just to watch the people crawl all over mine and totally ignore the finished cars i was parked next to. other peoples unfinished cars was the same way. face it, unfinished cars attract more attention! personally, i don't hardly give a "done" car more than a p***ing glance....
Havn't been since '99. Used to be awesome swap meet guaranteed to drain your wallet and wear out your legs. Used to live in Pleasanton and Livermore areas. I'd still go if I was there.
Went in the swap I got my A patch panels and lenses for my 58 chevy taillights also air cleaners for my 3 pots and left.
plenty of good swap meets left in ca. 1.Hayward is my favorite,i always find something and it's FREE. 2.Turlock is always good. 3.Alameda,haven't been yet,but i've heard good things.plus it's only $6 to get in
I think you had this same "concern" 3 years ago when it was getting started. Continuing on with this "logic" BILLETPROOF was just an EVIL way to keep "those cars" away from the good ones at a Goodguys event, right? You ever see the special awards made especially for the "Suede & Chrome" area? I would love to have one of those over the 3 dollar lucite deal from the "good car" area. Not enough to make a special area for the cars that everyone on here digs without attaching some kind of evil agenda to it? It was not as if those cars weren't already there- this was just a way to make them feel special when they perhaps did not fit in one of the other areas like the "Boyd Coddington Pro's Pick" area or one of the others. Glad to see that a couple yahoos will always believe their is some evil plot to take your money- when in reality all events cost about the same money to enter and attend, just that Goodguys does it better than most with more entertainment and a better variety of cars than many other deals. I like that once you are at the event you get to hang out with great people enjoying their cars, not people sitting on their computers *****ing about evil plots schemed up to empty thier wallets and quarantine all "those cars" away from the gold chainers.
Don't be a ****. I didn't have any concerns 3 years ago and never posted about it before, and I'm no yahoo. Notice I didn't call anyone a gold chainer, etc., I don't dislike people with high dollar cars, matter of fact I don't like half finished rust buckets, and am not into them. It was just a question.....I never even KNEW there was a suede and chrome section until this morning when I was looking at CKD and seen the GG ad it inside the back cover. It was a question asking if that's where they want those type of cars to go, because I HAVE heard people ***** about them. SO quit being a **** ****er and jumping in peoples **** with your ***umptions, you do it all the time. Who the **** do you think you are ?
I know what you mean as I am not going to any swap meet that is not local unless its a real big one as I can usually find all I need at the local junkyards I frequent and dont have to pay to park and get in. I have noticed most swapmeets around here filling up with late model camero, mustang and truck parts so it does not pay to go unless I am bored and nothing to do. Jeff
Too late. Sorry if my opinion differs from yours, but I do have ACTUAL knowledge of why this area was created and what happens at these events, as opposed to your ***UMPTIONS. Love that my opinion based on actual inside knowledge is "jumping in like a ****".
No , you jumped like a **** by making insinuations that I , apparently one of the "couple" of yahoo's had these conspiracy theories, when you don't know me, let alone saying I posted something 3 years ago. The answer I was looking for was "heck no, you can still park wherever you want.....or, "yeah, they pretty much want them in there". I haven't been to a GG event for over a year, I had no idea that wasn't a brand new deal. Any time anyone says anything about an advertiser in Rod & Custom you start salivating like Pavlov's dog. Whatever, but you aren't going to talk to me that way. Have a nice life. .
Sorry I don't remember the exact complaint you had with Goodguys or the Gazette but I do remember you PMing me about the "evil empire" while I sat at my desk at Goodguys. Didn't necessarily call you out as one of the yahoos as I have seen these complaints about GGs a MILLION times, but I do appreciate your direct and to the point feelings about me. That makes it VERY clear - Thank you.
Obviously I should noy be thowing such a SERIOUS term as "yahoo" around so loosely! I'd rather be directly called a "**** ****ing ****" any day.
I wasn't going to reply again, but man, you're all screwed up....I've never PM'd you in my life. I had no idea you had anything to do with GG until right now....so you better go back and figure out who it is you think you're talking about. I never had any idea who you were , and still don't except I ***ume you're Jim Aust, only because on some other thread the other day someone said something about you and a magazine, and then I was just reading the new R&C that I bought the other night and seen your name and made the connection. Otherwise all I knew was JimA......so don't ***ume everyone's following your career & knows who you are and where you work or have worked. I wouldn't have known you ever had anything to do with GG unless you said it. I don't know who you're talking about, but you better go back thru your PM's, I've never PM'd you, and won't ever either.
No, I'll have the last word, because I'll leave R&C on the shelf from now on. Way to win friends and influence people Dale.
I gave an opinion, sorry that it did not enlighten you you as to the reason behind the "Suede & Chrome" was to make people feel welcome, not corral them away from the "nice cars"- because to me those were the "nice cars". Again, this is the exact same discussion, with the EXACT same language I remember from a few years ago. Perhaps I should try your eloquent way of influencing people and winning friends in the future?
you guys crack me up , I love swapmeets , even if I don't buy anything , I like knowing that I have way cooler stuff at my house . Yorgatron , Alameda is hit and miss , but I have done well there , buying and selling , don't forget the Marina boyscout swap , it gets better every year , free to sell and like a buck a car to park.I miss the Watsonville swap it was a good one.
Actually I don't because that's the kind of response it usually gets, but for someone that does not follow my posts or have any knowledge of who I am before today you seem to have developed a great memory for what I have (n't) posted all of a sudden. I added to this post because after working for Goodguys for 3 years I kind of know what does and doesn't happen around there. Back to your normally sceduled programming.
Well I got kicked out of a good guys event last year after a photo shoot by r&c for an alleged burnout, and I am still going back to the event because it is a well run event other than the bubba event security via texas raceway staff. Ill take a more sedate car and act my age 57 this year..........but i will be there ..................
Hey JimA: First of all I'm a GG member . . . I like the GG events and plan to be at the one in Columbus, OH again this year. With that said, you seemed to be the one who immediately jumped on Roost's case -- when he was just asking a fair question. You immediately took his post as 100% negative and responded directly to his post as such -- thats a pretty direct attack. He wasn't dogging you or GoodGuys . . . just asking a question (maybe not the way GG prefers it to be asked - but that is his choice and I surely didn't read into it what you did). I can understand that you're a bit defensive - as you work for GG, but you also need to stay professional and not jump on people's cases on the HAMB so damn fast . . . doesn't make many friends or represent your role in GG very well. You jumped right off the diving board with a pretty big set of ***umptions and directly went after a HAMB member . . . and it did nothing but spiral downhill from there. Take the high-road first -- its a better place to be. My 3 cents . . .
I don't think the point of buying OLD (sometimes rusty) old car parts is to build a pile of ****. In my mind the good cars (shiney finish or not) are the ones built with old "real" parts. I don't go to swap meets to buy new chrome china made valve covers. I think thats the point of the post and I agree. I wanted to go to Pleasonton today but I hate the crowds, the cost to get in, and the swap meet has been getting worse. Instead I went to the flea market down in Santa Cruz. Two bucks to get in, had fun and spent less than a hundred bucks for a bunch of old (some rusty heaven forbid) tools and antiques. When's the next Hayward swap going to be?
