Im lookin for some transparent greeen plexi for my side windows in my 56 does anyone have any sources? I found a place online but by the time I got it here its gonna be about $350 just for the side windows in 1/8th inch.Id rather get it in KC or SL thanks for any info.
Look in your local (or nearest big city's) Yellow Pages under Plastics. If at all possible, use Lexan. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
I notice you ask about Plexigl*** (Cast Acrlic) and Lexan (Polycarbonate) I think you know that Plexy will shatter much like plate gl*** and is not legal for use in car windows in most places. Get Lexan with Marguard for car windows.
I went through this 1 1/2 years ago attempting to locate red Lexan for my nostalgiic drag car, I even contacted the manufacture in England. Too make a long story short, unless you intend on buying "numerous" sheets of Lexan, you will not be able to purchase just one sheet. It appears you can purchase 12" square pieces of coloured Lexan, however; nothing bigger. I ended up using smoked coloured Lexan (clear or a couple different shades of smoke). You may find NOS sheets at a plastic company which has been around since the 60's...... Good luck, if you do find a source for coloured "LEXAN", let us know.... I have heard of a few guys using coloured tint.
My first 56' Chevrolet Bracket Car was "gutted". For the side windows I used 1/4" red Acrylite. The gl*** shop I bought from even cut it to patterns I made, $80.00 for 4 windows in 1976. Plus, it's somewhat flexible and crack resistant. But, even back then, the red tint was'nt NHRA legal; I never had trouble at tech, just from other racers. Butch/56sedandelivery.
You could try these guys: Pro Gl*** 9318 Corneils Road Bristol, IL 60512 (630) 553-3141 http://www.progl***windows.com/ Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
Do a search. There was a thread on here about using Rit-dye to color lexan with good results. I just priced Polycarbonate at home depot today, and a 36"x72" sheet is $78. Rit-dye is about $6 depending on the store.
I wonder if it would be easier/cheaper to find some window tinting film, or clear plastic film that could then be applied like the window tint, and just put that on the gl***?
There are a number of manufacturers now who make custom tinted laminated safety gl***. Apparently for architectural use, but I don't see why you couldn't use it for automotive use. Find a PPG rep.
give me dimentions of what you need let me see if mine is still good. depends if the paper will still come off
I know GE makes mar-10 lexan in green, I use it at work all the time. Im not sure where we get it from though. If I find out who our source is, I will post it here.
i've dealt with these folks and been very satisfied... http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/search.asp?search=lexan
