This was not the last. There was the Balony Slicer (Allison I believe) and #11 and #6. This may be the last piston Monster to exist. Fatdad
The "Balony Slicer" was a Ranger powered pusher-propeller dragster...The Slicer had a habit of throwing loose rocks/debris at Art's competitors. 1959 NHRA Nationals at Detroit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zizLm4Rk8Lw 0+53, 2+34, 3+13, Jack Moss twin-eng. Chevy dragster 0+58, 2+34, Art Afron - GreenMonster - 170 mph, TOP Speed @ the '59 Nats. 3+13, 3+55, 4+29 (Top Eliminator Winner) Rod Singer, 3+26, 4+03, "Ohio George" Montgomery
OK,lots of interesting trivia posted,BUT,bottom line any chance you will run it in Tucson or at the Nostalgia Drags up here at Speedworld?
If you like the Green Monster, you have to watch this vid. One of the best old drag videos.....yeah yeah, I know it's been posted before! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bqCm7YO2GOI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bqCm7YO2GOI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Hey Cyclone, thanks for posting that again. Had to wait months to see that stuff in HotRod, back in '59. Great to see a movie of it some 50 years later.
Always been a big fan of the monsters. That thing is just plain neat. And, likewise, it needs to be at the HAMB drags. It will be surrounded constantly.
wish i could spend a couple of weeks just looking at it.very nice but i think it would look better in my garage.
that dragster used to be at my house every weekend,my dad and uncle were good friends with the Arfons Brothers, Jerry
how do you upload pictures on this site,I have several photos of our 3420 powered all wheel drive dragster and am getting ready to record a video of it running, need to know how to upload to this site, any information can be e-mailed to me direct at indianaflash7@yahoo.com. Thank you, Jerry a.k.a. inferno 3420 Never mind,I figured it out myself.
Here's a few more pictures of the Dragster,I'll have it outside in a few days and will be able to get photos of the entire car,If there is ANYONE who was around in the 60's-70's that remember Jack and Jim Doll? They are the builders of this machine,Jim's still around and would love to hear from (see) some of his old friends,,you know where he is. Jerry a.k.a. inferno 3420
Art was a class act. He always seemed to be enjoying himself even with one of his sled pullers in his later years.
One of Broadway Bob's signature is sitting on the Green Monster. There's a better picture out there that I can't find, but it's a side view (which shows the car in full form)
