Do any of the HAMB members have any info on this raceway ? I am in need of some pics or video if any are available. Looking for my pops that did some running out there.
My dad ran out there a lot in the 60's. I am unsure of what he has saved. We have TONS of video on 8MM film. I need to convert it.
Now there's a damn new housing complex and a school right where that strip used to be. My Pop took me out there all the time when I was just a little guy. Wow. That brings back some memories. Do you know Ralph down at the Hollywood Five & Dime? I'm pretty sure he's got some pictures. He used to hang out there daily as a teen.
My Dad and his car club, Walker AFB Dusters, took cars to Green Valley way back when. I'd love to see some of that footage too. Lots of names raced there too. Kelly Chadwick, Phil Bonner's Warbucks Falcon, Gene Snow, Mr. Bardhal, Dickie Harrel, Eddie Hill, etc... Dan
My father was buddys with Bill Hielscher back in the day. I got a stack of pics from there that he was throwing out after he closed up in the early 80s. He was a nice guy to talk with. Ive got a couple of 4-speeds that my dad bought from him back in the 70s. I miss that place, it had a atmosphere like no other. The only track that I know of that still has that old taste is Thunder Valley in Norman, Oklahoma. This is Green Valley sometime in 63..
Just spoke with my pops he ran a white vette called Casper. He thinks it between 69 and 72 when he ran. He did not run it too long since the owner bailed out of running. Appreciate everyones response.
This is a flashback,my dad ran the anglia circuit way back then,I remember going with him,he ran his anglia, slingshot rail,& henry J there & caddo mills.I saw mickey thompson there,as well as a few other big guys.I can still smell & hear that place.
that pic is cool. I have a patch for the 1962 AHRA championship drags at green valley. My ex-girfriends dad used to race a '58 vette there.
[ QUOTE ] Reed you are not old enough to remember any of that !! Great picts !!! [/ QUOTE ] I was a young pooter, we use to go there all the time. I remember the last race event there just before it closed up. They had this damn rocket car that made one pass, I believe that car is what screwed up my hearing and sense of smell. First they pushed it up there, all is quiet, then BOOM its gone. The smell was terrible worse than nitro, smelled like a **** house on fire. I bet it broke every window in a five mile radius.
Hi, I am also looking for info (posters, photos, anything) regarding green valley raceway for my dad. He used to race there in the 60s-80s. If anyone has any suffestions, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!
I have a very fuzzy memory of going there as a kid, maybe 6 or 7 aroung 86 or 87, i guess. all i remember is that is was loud. it's weird i was there with my uncle and cousin, who weren't as with the rest of my family, into cars. My grandfather-in-law raced there, he knew gene snow and a bunch of people's names i don't recognize. A shop i do a bunch of stuff for is keeping Grady Bryant's sumpin' 'else #2 at their shop, Grady will be running it at the nostalgia race next friday at texas raceway in kennedale. I'm printing them some shirts for the event, here's the art for the front. also is the very old picture i borrowed from the car's display board to make the art. the car still looks very much as it did after a resto. the motor is de-tuned however.
There is a anouncer sound clip on in the Hot Rod and Custom Classics 4 CD set. It has some old advertisements and such mixed in with the 50s up Hot Rod and Custom related music. The box looks like an old model box, comes with a set of fuzzy dice and some other stuff.
My dad, Don Crow of Crow & Payne, also ran with the anglia circuit. I've got some old handouts and some pictures if you need copies. I'm also looking for some pictures of my dad's 55 chevy he ran in C/Gas at Green Valley named "The Double Duece". The car had a picture of two dice on the sides and the number 22. It was a pale yellow with black letters which he ran between about '65 - '69. Sure would apprecitate any picture, we only have ONE.
You might want to go to this site and ask also. There are some posts about Green Valley. http://www.hotrodder.com/trackforum/dragstrips.html
They used to do some sportscar racing out there too. I seem to recall seeing two Mini Coopers gain a full lap on four 427 Corvettes in a race. Shocked the hell outa me at the time. First time I realized there was more to going fast than bigger engines.
All this talk again reminds how much I wish I'd hung on to all those fliers, and taken more pictures out here at our track. Penwell TX
Bills daughter Cindy owns/runs the track at Kennedale TX. She grew up on that track may be the best source of info. "Texas, the state that thinks it's a country"
That track was cool ! hung out there a lot in the 80s , the thing I remember most was , the old ladys house at the end of the track across the street ? I herd storys about dragsters landing in her trees and thru her front door ! when a parashoot didn`t open ?
Here are a few Instamatic shots from 1967. No place quite like it--too bad it couldn't have stayed around.
I went to Green Valley a few times as a kid to the drags and to a road race. I didn't have much luck when I looked for pictures, etc. either.
