Not sure if anything has been posted with regards to the Greenfield Ia. devastating tornado that cut a swath through the heart of this small town that hosts the annual Early Wheels Adair Fairgrounds swap meet each September. The town square courthouse area was a treasure to behold that harkens back to a simpler time with its Old Hotel & the former Ford /Mercury dealership converted by the local Chevrolet dealer to house some prime restored vehicles. Can't report anything further at this time but our hopes & prayers to all that may have been impacted.
The town square is fine, as the tornado cut across the very SE corner of town. The path must have gotten very close to the fairgrounds if it didn’t actually hit it straight on. All the aerial views I’ve seen don’t go as far as the fairgrounds so I can’t confirm. I can confirm the local hospital, some businesses, and a lot of houses were hit. Four people died in that tornado.
Tornado path may have clipped the very SE corner of the fairgrounds. Given the lack of structures and width of the tornado, I suspect the grounds were undamaged. Blue square is approximately the fairgrounds border. Red line is the path. Map is from NWS damage assessment toolkit page.
As mentioned, good news the courthouse square area was spared significate if any damage & the former Dennis Schiedberg dealership car collection & the Old Hotel just one city block east was also unscathed, our prayers remain with those less fortunate.
