    Hey folks.
I thought I'd better introduce myself. I'm 45, been building cars since I was 15 and don't spend time chatting and lip flapping.

I've built mostly 50's cars ( 50 Merc, 55 Chev Gasser, 57 Nomad, 53 Chev lowrider, 51 Meteor (carson top).

When I was 10, my hero ( a kid named Scott Hunn) had a picture of a chopped/chanelled & Zframed 31 ford on his wall. It was his dream car then, and mine now. The body sat so low the roof didnt see the bottom of the intake manifold. The poster was out of his dads old rod mag so I'm guessing it had to be from around 58-59.

My buddy was killed on his Motorbike when I was 13. He left me with a life long passion of cars with sparkplugs and 8 cylinders. His picture rides with me with my registration.

2 years ago I started looking for a 30/31 to build. I've looked at so many rust cans covered in bondo I could gag. 4 weeks back I found the car. It's a 5 window that was stripped to be restored by the owner in 1960. He pulled it apart to bare frame and boxed and labeled everything. The motor and******* were sent to be rebuild and upon their return he had a massive heart attack at age 23. He survived but the project stalled. He flipped the cab on its nose, pushed it into a corner and the frame mounts became the corner for his wood working bench. He's 73 now and clearing out his garage.

So my project is to reconstruct the 30 ford with a Zframe that's chopped and channeled so low you need to limbo under the steering wheel to screw youself into it. The only new parts on it will be stop and go stuff.

I'm really hoping to find a lot of answers here to make this correct for the period. There wont be anything new from the local speed shop or from Ebay. It's got to be vintage and done right. It's my chance to remember a buddy and build the car we both dreamed of.

Ride safe, drink good beer and live well.

  2. Hey Fred. Welcome from a flatland canuk. I figured if you were serious about doing a period car you would end up here. The coupe sounds like a good score. Use the search function on the tech section to get some ideas on frames. Have a look around, I think you will like your new home. Caution though, this place is very addictive. Pat.

Got to thank you for sending me here. Talk about addictive... I fell asleep with my lap top on my chest last night in bed... around 2:00.
