  1. Hello Folks,

I joined HAMB some months ago, but didnt get time to post until now.

Last year I bought one of the French Flathead blocks, to replace my own, which was more rust than steel. I'm restoring a WWll Ford C.M.P truck, 1942 vintage. Each component is stripped down entirely, and because of that, it takes me ages to get visible progress. Worst part was the body work. I was a spray painter a very long time ago, but I certainly aint a panelbeater.

I have a question you guys will no doubt be able to advise me about. The French block does not have the steel tube that sits vertically in the engine, towards the front, and is what stops all tnhe oil from flowing down to the breather channel and out the sump pan. My original engine has this tube still in place, but I do not know if it is able to be pulled out and reused on the new block. Ideally I would like to buy a brand new one, but heres the rub, I have NEVER seen one advertised for sale. Any advise on how to remove, or where to buy a fresh one would be greatly appreciated.

I have attached several photos of the truck progress so far, including the mandatory 'as bought' photo.
