Sorry, but I am not a hot rodder or custom guy. I have an interest based originally on my four-Sunday-long adventure with Kenny Howard - "Von Dutch." As a freelance photographer who had built up a small portfolio of painted cars and dragsters since arriving in LA in 1966, I was asked by the Los Angeles Times to shoot a story about Dutch. I spent four consecutive Sundays with him and his family in Calabasas producing the West Magazine cover story that came out on May 24, 1970. I am happy every time I talk to someone who still has that issue, and there are many. In Issue Number 36 of Rodders Journal, a selection of those photos was published with a story by Thom Taylor. And in April of 2007, Motorbooks released the book of most of the photos I shot back in 1970, ***led "Sundays With Von Dutch." With text by Tony Thacker, and a little by me. So I am not a hot rodder, much as I regret not having become one when I was younger and healthier. If any of you attended the auction of many of Dutchs things in 2007 at the Petersen Museum, you probably saw me there. I was invited by the auction company to come and display the globe of the Moon that I had purchased from Rand McNally and brought with me one of those Sundays for Dutch to do something with. What he did was a spectacular tour de force of perfectly symmetrical freehand arcs. I have had it all these years and really enjoyed my time with it. Alas, my time is getting to the short end of the stick, and I need to find a home for it, as I have no heirs. So I saw your bulletin board and thought maybe someone might have an interest or a suggestion of where I could find someone with an interest. I am thinking about putting it on Ebay. I'd like it to go to someone who will be sure to let others easily see it. But before I put it on the market I'd like to make its existence known. I am not sure how to post photos on your site, so if anyone wants to see some, I will need advice on how to do it. It is shown in great detail in the book, from the unopened box sitting on a table thru him opening the box, examining the Moon, putting it on a steel rod and the first brush stroke clear thru to the last. It is also on the cover. There is also a close-up of the logo, painted with the striping dagger and according to everyone I talked to at the auction, most likely the smallest logo he ever painted. You can Google either my name or the book ***le to see the cover and read a bit about it and about me (on the Amazon.com site). I hope I am not out of line by posting this, and I am presuming that if I am, your Webmaster will delete it. Thanks, My name is Richard Karl Koch and I shot Von Dutch - hundreds of times! P.S. the day that West story came out he called me at home and told me he was very very happy with it. That was my best birthday present ever!

But before I do I'd like to make its existence known. I am not sure how to post photos on your site, so if anyone wants to see some, I will need advice on how to do it. It is shown in great detail in the book, with about 25 photos from Dutch staring warily at the unopened box sitting on a table thru him opening the box, examining the Moon, putting it on a steel rod and the first brush stroke clear thru to the last. It is also on the cover. There is also a close-up of the logo, painted with the striping dagger and according to everyone I talked to at the auction, most likely the smallest logo he ever painted. He has no clue..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=242530 "I have tried at least six times to post on your board, and I never find what I posted. What I do find is a lot of stuff dated 2005. FYI I am writing this in 2008. Today I looked on the site for the section where people post their questions and I see two very prominent things. 1. There is a huge percentage of posts from people who do not understand how the site works or find the site defeating them when they try once, twice, or more to make some sense out of it so they can make use of the site and perhaps make a contribution. I see nothing wrong with people getting frustrated and venting their frustration, although I do think that they must be as frustrated as I am when they resort to some pretty strong language. However as familiar and eloquent as I am with strong language, I try to reserve it for people who use it unnecessarily or mean-spiritedly. 2. There are plenty of that type of people on this site and they all seem to be people who by reason of the length of time they have had to figure out this incredibly difficult site that seems loaded with land mines at every dip in the road, or by reason of the fact that they have an obvious need to belittle others (and there seems to be a high percentage of such folks on this site) or by reason of their possible ownership of really cool iron and think, (as do many I have seen in car shows) that such ownership comes with the right to **** all over the poor guys who dont have the iron, or who dont have the computer savvy, or are simply admitting some weakness that this type of person loves to pounce upon and thus make themselves feel superior. COOL IT, all you vultures! Maybe you need to spend some time elsewhere on the net where sites work seamlessly and easily and clearly instead of indicating to all that you probably have never been on another site and think that this HAMBurger hash of a site is the way they all are. Honestly, I have never seen such a confusing, poorly designed and poorly managed site in my years on the Net. But I do not own a hotrod, so of course my opinion does not count. I am just a lowly guy with nothing more to my credit than I made good friends with Von Dutch without kissing his ***, and with Steve McQueen when I photographed his stuff that he had Dutch make for him, and then I put it in my book that people really like. But since I do not own a hot rod and own a little foreign iron, you will surely feel justified to jump all over my sorry *** for being critical of what seems to be a high percentage of people using this board who are a few wing nuts short of a well adjusted at***ude and totally lacking in anything remotely resembling style or cl***. So to all you guys who are civilized, I express my thanks and my wish that I could have found a way to get something out of and hopefully contribute something to this site after spending at least ten hours trying. And to all you sociopaths or Neanderthals with nitro in your adrenal glands, I say - chill it on the newbies. As for me - I'm outa here! Who needs the aggravation!? Signed, Richard Karl Koch (pronounced "Coke" for all you nut jobs who would like to call me **** ****.)"
A rather odd post, don't you think? Why not a little less talk and a small sample of the hundreds of shots of Von Dutch? Nothing that can be plagiarized, just something for the illiterate a**** us to peer at and admire. I'm a half-blind old man and I have no problem with the site. BTW...the half-blind old man will be at the Roundup with his piss yellow and primer '31 coupe.
