I am somewhat new to the hobby. I haven't really "built" anything, but I have cobbled and hacked things to make them work using the tools I have on hand. I don't know what that makes me. Old cars I currently have are a 1938 Cadillac (series 65) and a 1963 AMC Rambler (660 Classic). I like old cars and I like nice unique cars. I started to get really interested in rods and customs a few years ago and bought my Rambler. I built a grand vision of an AMC drivetrain (mid-90s straight-six from a Jeep), disk brakes and a custom interior with little/no external mods past the paint scheme. Personally, I like factory chrome and door handles, even though most are removed or painted and I like to be able to get under my car. As I subscribed to all the major magazines, I saw really nice things (cross-drilled rotors, power brakes, limitless speed parts, etc.) As I started to look for the parts, I found that anything other than 30s Fords running a SBC 350/350 combo with Mustang IFS and a Ford Rear was on their own for making things work. At the time, I didn't have any of the needed tools or a place to work on it so it sat at my parents house and I grew disinterested. The reason all these cool cars appealed to me was originality. After looking under the hood (figuratively and literally), I was as bored with the old as I am with new cars. Fast forward to last summer... I inherited my grandparent's 38 Caddy and decided I was going to do a full restoration on it. After 6 months of reading and learning and reading some more, I decided to start work. As such, my interest has turned back to doing things with old cars. I finally brought my Rambler to my house, convinced by my wife that we shouldn't take it right to the junk yard. Now, I found your web site and am in deep. I have read through most of the tech posts and read through all the messages that caught my eye for the past couple months. Also, I have searched out specific topics of interest to me for my current endeavors. I find the posters here knowledgeable and skilled. From what I see, they are extremely proficient at making things work.
Sure... If this doesn't work, though, you can check out: http://www.therhodeislandreview.com/recreation/1938cadillac65/1938cadillac65.html
Hey, you've got a great Caddy. Good luck with that project and reach out on the HAMB with updates, questions, etc. If you ever get tired of that '38 let me know! Until then, go HAMBr on it. Welcome, -scott noteboom
