This is precisely why I think it is better to not package it up. They will take it just plain with NO packaging and I think they actually prefer it that way to save space and so they can see what it is and take better care of it. No packaging saves a bunch of time and h***le and I think actually does help. Try giving a plain fender to UPS or FedEx and see what they say. I was a bit shocked when I got that valance with absolutely no wrapping at all and just the address written right on it. I remember asking the lady about it and she said that it was fine with them to send things that way, no problem and I got the feeling they actually preferred it that way. The Oakland station is the one closest to me and they actually have a separate room they do all the shipping in. Nothing fancy by any stretch for sure and not the greatest part of Oakland, but the items seemed secure and guarded enough.

After eight months I do not have a red cent from them despite having filed a claim immediately and they ignore all letters and communication. Any questions????

Sent a NOS trunk lid for a chevy II from TN to TX no problem. It was a big box!

Nothing's fool proof just ask weasel :( that ****s!!

All you can do is hope for the best regardless of how you ship it. I've had items damaged by UPS, FED EX, USPS, and freight carriers.

I like Greyhound Express, shipped a 1923 Franklin hood and grill shell to LA, a few years ago and it arrived just fine ( I take great care in packing stuff) and the cost was very reasonable. Only flaw with the deal is they ship terminal to terninal, not everyone lives close to one, I'm 45 minutes away from mine, and only use it if I'm in the area, it would be fair to add in gas and time for the drop off IMO. If I remember correctly you need to pay in cash if you are shipping something.

I shipped a 40 Ford hood from Idaho to Texas by Greyhound. I crated it well and had no problems. The receiver on the other end had to pay a per day fee for storage if it wasn't picked up in a reasonable time. It wasn't much. I would have no problems doing it again.

I got a IH Scout fender from NW Georgia to Jax no problems. Sold a chest on ebay to go to New Mexico and Greyhound doesn't ship to NW, sent it UPS and it was destroyed. Cost was really compe***ive.

If your not in a hurry to move the parts, Greyhound is the way to go. It might take 6-10 days for it to get there, but for the price it's worth it.

I've shipped quite a few things, including a few front fenders. Showed up in perfect condition, not bent or anything.

I really think this is the way to go if you are between Fedex/UPS and a pallet on a truck. If it's big and not super heavy, get it down there and ship it.

Every shipper does damage. I've had the best luck with USPS. But check this out...A grill going from NC to Canada. USPS blames it on Canada, Canada blames it on USPS. Nobody pays the Insurance claim. I would definately use Greyhound again though. It seems like less people touch your package (tee hee) which gives it less chance of being damaged. And in most cases, it will be faster and cheaper than UPS Ground or equivalent method.

As I mentioned earlier, I try to use our H.A.M.B. friends whenever possible. I had BenD bring two front fenders for my 41 GMC to Texas from California a while back and he charged me $100.00. These things are huge, and very floppy. They can be damaged just by picking them up wrong. They arrived in perfect condition.

More recently, I had four wheels and tires brought from CA to TX, and he only charged me $75.00. Ben worked out the pickup from the seller in CA and arranged with Marcy for a handoff. Ben got the stuff last Friday, and I'm picking them up from Marcy tomorrow. Whenever I have something to move from one place to another, I will always start by contacting these people first.

Had a hood shipped for my tractor from mid west to Fl 50.00 . Price was ok but the shipper didn't cover it or box it . This hood was like new condition when i bought it ,but when it arived it had road rash were they dragged it across parking lot .

Had no room to complain sence the shipper didn't put a protective cover on it .

Yes, but Greyhound has yet to pay me a red cent eight months after I filed my claim at their depot and countless registered letters which they ignore - I am out $1k to fix the damage - two fenders were damaged. That makes them the most expensive shipping option of all.:mad::mad:

I have no problems using them. The latest item was a 48" 100+ year old table. Shipping and packing was quoted at $600 for texas to ga. 2 fridge boxes and a trip to the greyhound. We got it 2 days later and it only cost us $120

Have had large front fenders shipped to me on two separate occasions by Greyhound. No problem,no damage.Just have to make your own packaging and either take it to them or go to them to pick it up.Its a good service and a lot cheaper than the regular carriers or freight.

Had two Model A front fenders shipped from California to North Dakota with no problems. Were advised to protect sharp corners, beyond that just wrapped in cardboard and fibergl*** tape.

Only concern was the North Dakota depot when we picked them up. Asked about the fenders (they phoned us when they arrived) and they pointed to packages leaning aginst he wall. Didn't ask for any ID or signatures, just have a good day. Thought they should have made sure we were who we said we were.

Just anothe note. They don't ship across the Canada US border. That is why were were picking them up in ND. Still a lot cheaper than the rip off that UPS put us through up here. They can double the cost of a item in brokerage fees.

I too have had good luck...I've have 5 or 6 fenders sent to be bubble wrapped, no issues, and have sent hoods and fenders bubble wrapped without issue either.

I have used Greyhound and have never had a problem.
You cant beat the price if you can wait a bit, they can be a bit slow at times.

I have shipped fenders(boxed) and wheels (just tied together with rope). Greyhound rate up to $100 value, the insurance is no charge, above that you must specify the value and pay extra. If they don't ask you and it's damaged it's only insured for $100 or less.

The same thing happened to me through USPS. They don't go over the border to Canada. USPS claimed the damage happened in Canada, Canada claimed the damage happened when USPS had it. Nobody would pay my insurance claim. There can be mixups no matter who you choose to ship. You're taking a gamble when you send rare or expensive stuff around the country. Greyhound does have it's place, they offer a cheaper alternative to UPS and FedEx for big stuff.

Hey Canuck, we're friendly trustworthy folks up here in the Nort, ya know fer sure you betcha! Ya have a good day, now!

Anyway, I've had great results with the Dog also. My only word of caution is shipping to/from the small town depots. When shipping, you have to show up at the depot within a few minutes that the daily bus p***es through or you'll miss the ticket agent. When receiving, the bus will do its whistle stop, drop your parcel off, then leave. Unless you're there to meet the bus, things can be a little dicey.

Reading thru this later this evening, trying to get some doors from Wisconsin to KC & wondering if you have to meet the bus to pick them up.

I've shipped large items 4 or 5 times. Never a problem. Most have a caged protected area that your goodies wait in.

I had a Doodlebug scooter sent Greyhound, but it was wrapped in cling rap so thick that all you could see were the tires at the bottom. It came without a scratch.----- If I were going to ship fenders---- I would rap very well and box them. That 32 front is a mess.--TV
